Cindy Crawford Ended Daughter Kaia's Modeling Career for All the Right Reasons

cindy crawford, kaia gerber, presley gerber, rande gerber, Kudos to Cindy Crawford, who just earned herself the title of "Most Sensible Celeb Mom Ever." The 45-year-old former supermodel has reportedly put a stop to her 10-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber's modeling career, at least for the time being: Kaia will have to wait until the age of 17 to start modeling, says Crawford.

Kaia really only has one major modeling gig under her belt -- she starred in a campaign for Versace's line of children's clothing. But considering the buzz she managed to generate in the fashion industry at such a young age with that one job (yes, she definitely takes after her mom), it's clear Kaia's career was going places, fast.

Apparently too fast, in Cindy Crawford's opinion. And given the recent uproar over alleged abuse of underage models, I couldn't agree more.

Marc Jacobs got himself into hot water earlier this week for sending 14 and 15-year-old models down the runway at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week -- right after the Council of American Fashion Designers requested members to use models over the age of 16 only in their shows. Meanwhile, former supermodels like Paulina Porizkova have been increasingly vocal about the treatment they received as young girls in the modeling industry (think sleazy agents and photographers).

I have a 10-year-old daughter, too, and I think Crawford is making the absolute best decision for Kaia ... even though she hasn't come right out and given these concerns as the reason for making Kaia take a break. So far, the only explanation she's given is the following brief statement:

"At this point, she's too young to pursue a career. There aren't even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl."

Which is exactly as it should be.

Do you think Cindy Crawford made the right decision by pulling her 10-year-old daughter out of modeling?
