A few months ago, I tested out Olay Professional's Pro-X Clear Acne Protocol for my personal blog.
The system is designed for adult women who still suffer from the occasional blemish or six (I would think that's most of us), but don't want to resort to using harsh acne treatments designed for teenage skin.
I was impressed with the Olay system right off the bat, but I didn't really have enough time to test its effectiveness over the long-haul.
Well now, I've been using it for several months, and I thought it was worth a post on here on The Stir, because I can unequivocally give you my opinion on whether this system is worth its $34.29-at-Walgreens price tag ...
OMG, absolutely!!
I realized just yesterday that since I started using the Olay products, I haven't had a SINGLE breakout. It's been MONTHS -- and the reason that I agreed to the review program in the first place was that I had been having one or two acne flare-ups a month. It would just be one zit, but it would be a BIG zit that was difficult to cover and took weeks to fully disappear.
Well now, those days are over. Thank God. There's something really awful about walking around with a big, red zit at the ripe old age of 36.
It just ain't right.
What I love (and use) most about this system is the Complexion Renewing Lotion, which is extremely light, gel-like, and non-greasy. My skin, sadly, is aging now that I'm in my mid-30s, so I can't go without moisturizer. But I think moisturizers, even the lightest ones I could find, were what were causing the breakouts. This particular moisturizer does not. I use it every morning and every night, and add a little intensive eye cream as well. Perfect!
I should also add that as a beauty blogger, I have had the opportunity to try out many, many, MANY skin care systems, some costing hundreds of dollars. I can't even believe myself that my absolute favorite one is available at the drugstore!
Who knew?!
I was also heartened to see when I looked up product information about the line that it's gotten tons of fabulous reviews from users ranging from Walgreens to Amazon.
Bottom line? I'm going to buy a replacement box tomorrow -- and if you're like me and have occasional blemishes, you might want to consider trying it out as well.
In the meantime ...
What's your favorite skincare line -- and how do you keep breakouts at bay?

I had baby perfect clear, poreless, matte skin my entire life until the day I turned 26 which was 7 months ago. I don't know what the hell happened. I started having 2-3 pimples at a time...they would heal and here comes another... my pores enlarged, and I had really oily skin.
I tried every grocery store acne wash, every spot treatment, every mask, tried 2 different forumlas of Clinique 3 Step systems, did microdermabrasion at my local Red Door Spa, did lactic acid peels...nothing.
Then one day my husband saw a ProActive commercial and suggested I tried it. I didn't even think of it before cause I thought it was a scam. I went to the mall and bought the 30 day trial supply and in 2 weeks my skin was FLAWLESS AGAIN. Miracle worker. It was surprising because I've used Benozyl Peroxide spot treatments before and they did nothing but for whatever reason ProActive worked.
Highly recommend it if you've tried everything else. I used it twice a day but my skin got dry so now I use it only at night and just splash water on my face in the morning. My skin is completely back to normal. I guess I just hit a certain age and my skin changed. I know this is long but I really, really believe in this product.
Like Kritika, I used to have baby perfect skin my entire life...until I got pregnant. And then it all went to shit. It's been almost 10 months since my son was born and my face is slowly getting back to it's pre-baby awesomeness, but I still get breakouts on a regular basis and there's a lot of scarring. I've tried everything (ProActive, Clinique, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Clean&Clear, etc.) and had facials, but nothing really does the trick. I'm willing to try the Olay Pro-X because at this point it couldn't hurt!
I had acne from the age of 15-35 and I thought I was going to go right from zits to wrinkles. I started using Philosophy products at 35 and in the last five years I've been acne free (and only a few wrinkles...sigh). I'm not sure if it's because of the products I use or because my body had finally had enough of being an adult trapped in a teenager's skin, but I'm not willing to hedge my bets and change anything at this point. I'm too scared of going back there :)
I have tried every product imaginable to try to control my acne and nothing ever seemed to work as well as I wanted it to. Just as I had given up I found out about the Oil Cleanse Method and decided to give it go. I haven't looked back since. It's easy, relatively cheap, natural, and it works very well! My breakouts have been minimal and go away much quicker now. I learned yesterday that a little bit of tea tree oil can help with breakouts as well so I'll try that the next time I have a pimple.
I've always battled acne, and still do. I had a free sample of this product, and it burned my skin. :( I loved the moisterizer, and I would buy just that, but definitely not the face wash.
I'm still battling acne...on my face, back, arms, sides, butt, and chest. I've had body acne as long as I can remember and NOTHING works for it.
As far as Oil of Olay goes... I love that shit!! Pardon my language, but I've been using it forever!! All the ladies in my family have always used it, and I love the way it smells, so I've been slathering it on since I can remember. Their products are all wonderful, for me at least.
Is this product ok to use during pregnancy?
Nicole, I agree- I wish they sold the moisturizer only, because I use that extensively. It's really my favorite piece of the system.
