Angelina JolieI'm going to say something controversial here: I didn't like Angelina Jolie's dress at the Golden Globes. And to be totally frank, I'm shocked that I'm in the minority. When the camera first panned to the stunning actress on the red carpet, I let out a gasp so audible that my husband came running from the other room to make sure my shih tzu and I were okay. Physically we were, but visually, we were violated.
What was she wearing? Why was she wearing it? And how, in God's name, was everybody on the red carpet -- and online -- praising her gown with a straight face?
When I fired up my laptop to see what fashion bloggers and gossip sites were saying about the Blood and Honey director, I was floored. I thought for sure we would all be in agreement -- this dress sucks. But we weren't. In fact, everyone seemed to be in disagreement with me.
Here's what was so unappealing about the dress to me: The colors. The cut and design of it were fine -- they weren't anything groundbreaking, but they were fine. The red and the white together, though -- with a bright red purse to boot -- just didn't work for me (and just me, apparently).
The combination made the gown seem juvenile, matchy-matchy, costume-esque almost. It was as if Angelina stepped off set, having just played the Queen of Hearts, some kind of Valentine's Day faerie, or the girlfriend of an '80s coke dealer. It was all wrong. And, if I might say, it was so not Angelina.
Look, I'm all for stars breaking out of their fashion go-tos, and for Angelina, that's dark solid colors -- blacks, navys, etc. -- but this dress was so opposite end of the spectrum that it just looked odd. Perhaps if this were on a different celebrity, say, someone like Reese Witherspoon, I wouldn't have disliked it so much, because it would have gone with her personality more. As far as Angie's concerned, though, I say she sticks to her usual repertoire. If it ain't broke.

It was definitely a fashion risk, but isn't that the point? One risks people not liking it, and from what I've read, there were many in that camp.
I liked it, she looked beautiful and glamorous just like you should at a Hollywood "event"
I like it, Just because she doesn't fit your perception, wearing dark colors all of the time, doesn't mean she doesn't totally rock this dress.
She looks fine to me. Good look on a momma of six :)
I loved the dress. A nice departure from her usual look.
I like the dress and the fact that she tried something other then her overpriced black garbage bag looking dresses, which aren't flaterring at all. Nice to see that she's not swimming in an ocean of black material.
I like it.
