The red carpet sizzled tonight as the stars strutted and showed off their high-fashion duds for the 69th annual Golden Globes award show. Though the awards are the purpose of the event, it's the dresses that always steal the show.
Tonight we saw some strong trends. Strapless dresses ruled, as did the color red. Pale pink and green were also seen frequently, as were headbands, however unfortunate the latter may have been for some. Some dresses were simply breathtaking, while other stars should have perhaps taken another look in the mirror before they made their selection. Here are some of the best red carpet looks from the 2012 Golden Globes ... and a couple of not-so-hot looks as well.
Winners
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
They looked like royalty. The ivory fitted gown by Atelier Versace showed off her fabulous figure. The slit was intriguing without being too revealing, and the flash of red in the fold-over detail across her chest added an amazing wow factor. The red clutch was the perfect accessory. Brad, with his flowing hair, scruffy facial hair, and cane was just as hot. Like them or not, you can't deny they are pure beauty together.
Zooey Deschanel
In black and green Prada, Zooey was dazzling. But it was her manicure that really stood out -- little tuxedos on each finger. "So they could escort me to the party," said Deschanel, who recently filed for divorce.
Reese Witherspoon
Radiant in a strapless, fitted red gown by Zac Posen, Reese rocked her look. Her hair was down and just the right amount of messy, and she was glowing.
Julianna Margulies
I loved this look. The purple fitted dress by Naeem Kahn was lovely with its awesome open back, but it was the big green earrings that just put the whole ensemble over the top.
Losers
Michelle Williams
Not only was her blue dress by Jason Wu too old and conservative looking for her, but that headband on her short hair was all sorts of wrong.
Amy Poehler
Love Amy, but tonight, she looked downright matronly. The pale, high-necked dress looked better suited for Betty White than for her, and her curled hair made it worse.

I thought Jessica Alba looked gorgeous, and I think Kate Winslet and Kate Bekinsale did as well.
I thought Zooey Deschanel looked ridiculous. I don't see the appeal of this girl. She's about as cute and entertaining as nails on a chalkboard.
I don't really care and don't wacth it
Reese Witherspoon looks phenomenal, easily the most beautiful I've ever seen her.
I thought Michelle Williams had a fantastic red carpet look and her speech was beautiful.
