Axe Body Spray for WOMEN? That Idea Stinks

axe body sprayAxe commercial.Hey, ladies! Ever wished you could smell like an eager college freshman or a cab driver? Now's your chance. Soon, there will be an Axe body spray for women. Unilever, the company behind the scent and its ridiculous ads, says that they're launching a uni-sex spray called Anarchy that will be sure to titillate the boys just as much as the girls.

I don't know if it's all the Axe chemicals floating around their offices and making Axe execs think this is a good idea, but hate to break it to you fellas: No woman I know likes the overt, in-your-face smell of douche bag in a can. We don't like it on guys and we certainly won't like it for ourselves.

A fragrance is supposed to be subtle and seductive. It shouldn't come in an aerosol can with a neon logo. It's my opinion that a woman's perfume, her scent, is a very personal thing. Yes, there are successful scents that sell millions of bottles (Chanel no. 5, J'adore Dior, not to mention all the celebrity fragrances), but it becomes a personal experience when we open the delicate lid, dab some of the silky liquid on our wrists and behind our ears, and inhale.

There's nothing generic about it, even if the product itself is highly mass-marketed. With Axe, you have to spray it all over your body and then, as so many of the commercials have told us, you'll become irresistible to the opposite sex even if you're sweating your face off. I can see why it applies to clueless teenage dudes, but women are smarter than Axe.

We don't want to smell like must, Old Spice, o-zone, Irish Spring, and cedar wood. We don't wanna smell like the first floor of the guy's dorm at UConn or The Situation right after a smush session. Axe has its place in the market, but when it comes to women, they're barking up the wrong tree.

Would you wear Axe Anarchy for men and women?

Am I the only grown woman in this country who actually LIKES some of the Axe, scents? (on a guy that is..) yes? Ok I'll be leaving now..:

(side note, my hubby has a very sensitive nose so I haven't been able to wear perfume for a long time even though I love it and he doesn't do cologne. I do like the smell of his soap and deodorant though...just smells manlyish...I dunno, I'm weird)

I don't like the smell of Axe products. They're a tad strong for my taste. But that's just me. My husband wears CK One and it drives me wild. :-)

I like the smell of some Axe fact, that's what my hubby wears for everyday scent (Kenneth Cole black for special occasions!)  some are pretty weird smelling, but the ones he picks out, I love!  Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't OVERDO the spraying....some guys put on waaay too much.  So I'm right there with you butterflymkm!

Some of the Axe scents are over-powering. But, I like the smell of some of the more clean/fresh body washes. I've used some of my fiances Axe body wash before, but it wasn't too masculine. It was just a clean scent. I don't know if I would use the spray, it depends on how strong it is.

I love Axe especially the Chocolate one, my hubby happens to have super sensitive skin and cannot use it. Every once in a while I'll get a whiff of it on a special occasion, it smells awesome! My hubby uses cologne though, but it doesn't have that strong knock you off your feet smell. :) To each his own. Not sure I would use Axe though, I like my perfume! I love the little bottles of heavenly bliss and delicate smells. Can't imagine not having my princess dabbing moments, and spraying that stuff all over my body.

Personally, I love Axe on my husband (and myself on VERY rare occasions), though my hubby doesnt wear Axe that often. He is a Kenneth Cole Black man and I love it!

Axe isnt so bad. I used to use it a lot in high school, mostly after gym class, and mostly because as a 16 year old it was hard to get a good perfume that wasnt way out of your allowance range.

But I might try the new Anarchy fragrance. *shrugs* Why not?

IMO, the ad didnt make it clear the product was for women also. That is NOT how you advertise to a Woman.

I like the smell of Axe on my husband. Then again he doesn't use the whole can like a teenage boy. It's affordable and smells amazing when used right. I actually like it a little better than the Bath and Bodyworks colognes and body sprays he also uses!

I knew a lot of girls who used it back in HS because it drove the guys nuts. I read a study last year that claimed men really like women wearing men's fragrances and I can totally believe it. My hubby used to use Old Spice deodorant back in college and whenever I borrowed it he'd tell me how sexy I smelled. Now he uses the Dove for Men body wash and deodorant and whenever I've used the body wash he's been all over me.
