Couples Who Dress Alike Are Fashion Killers

same sneakersIf there are three things in this world that freak me out more than anything, they'd have to be little girl ghosts, the sound of metal against metal, and couples who dress alike. And I'm not talking alike a la Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, I'm talking identical. Matching t's and khakis, the same orange polo shirt, carbon copy sweaters. Ugh, it's awful. And it's just plain weird. I feel like if I had a PhD in Psychology, I wouldn't be able to understand why two people would ever do this.

Apparently, going all matchy-matchy with your significant other is a rampant trend in China, though. Forget changing their relationship status on Facebook, this is how young couples like to show their love.

Um, yeah ...

If I'm not mistaken, this was a trend that sort of surfaced in the mid to late '80s. I have memories of walking around Six Flags with my parents, seeing numerous couples in similar -- actually, not similar, the exact same clothes. It scared me more than the Scream Machine. And that was a pretty frightening rollercoaster.

If you're on The Amazing Race, fine, dress alike all you want. But if you're not, please stop. I get that we all pick up on our partner's habits, but for the love of God, can we try to maintain a sliver of our old selves after pairing off with someone?

If you really feel that the way to let the world know you're in love with your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife is through dressing alike, how about wearing similar colors or tones instead? Both wear black or both wear earth tones. Just don't wear the same exact thing. That really is odd.

Do you ever wear the same thing as your partner?
