9 Out of 10 Retailers Planning to Offer Free Shipping for the Holidays

Free Shipping DayThere's great news for those of you who love to take care of holiday shopping online as much as I do:

Hundreds of major retailers are planning to offer free shipping for the holidays, hoping to entice more consumers to buy online.

Details vary from retailer to retailer, but many (771 at last count) will be participating in Free Shipping Day on December 16, allowing you to save big bucks on shipping and get guaranteed arrival by Christmas Eve.

Free Shipping Day is scheduled this year for December 16. Some of the retailers who've already signed on to participate are:

  • Lands' End
  • JC Penney
  • Macy's
  • Kohl's
  • DSW
  • REI
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Sephora
  • Radio Shack
  • Hanna Andersson
  • Melissa & Doug

... and many, MANY more.

I think I may have to do a little shopping for myself on Free Shipping Day, too, how about you?

Hundreds more retailers should be signing on to participate in the next few weeks, if last year's numbers are any indication. In 2010, 1,750 retailers were part of the annual event and shoppers logged in and checked out in droves. Free Shipping Day last year was the third-heaviest day of online shopping EVER.

To see who's signed up so far, check out FreeShippingDay.com. I totally took advantage of this day last year -- it was sooo much easier than braving the malls in December!

Will you shop online on Free Shipping Day?
