Why Would Anyone Want to Look Like 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'?

Girl with the Dragon TattooThe fashion world is in a frenzy today over news (via WWD) that H&M will be releasing a capsule collection inspired by lead character Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming film, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

One word:

Ew.

The line will be designed by Trish Summerville, who designed actress Rooney Mara's costumes for the film.

According to the New York Post:

H&M said Wednesday the 30-piece collection has "the dark urban feel that defines" Salander's character, with leather jackets and trousers, torn jeans, and slouchy hoodies.

Thanks, but if I'm going for that look, I can get it at Goodwill.

I'm impressed that Rooney Mara went to such extremes to play this character -- enduring body piercings, chopping her hair into this weird and hideous haircut, bleaching her eyebrows, and whittling her figure down to boyish proportions.

That doesn't mean I want to run to my nearest salon (or H&M for that matter) and get the look for myself!

HOWEVER, I am praying that all the little 20-somethings out there do exactly that -- because then I will look like a goddess. LOL.

If you're interested, the capsule collection will debut at H&M on December 14.

I'd love to know what you think about all this Girl With the Dragon Tattoo madness. Is looking like Lisbeth Salander really going to become a hot trend? *shudder*

Um, wow. I'm really shocked at this article on so many levels. Did you really just say 'Ew" like a 5 year old child? The first thought in my head when I read your response was the movie Mean Girls and all those repulsively bitchy, cruel girls. Granted you're only talking about a character in a movie, but there are plenty of people who actually look this way, who CHOOSE to look this way, myself included.

It's disgusting that you feel so comfortable trashing this look simply because it's not something you're used to or really familiar with, this is a style just as much as the way YOU dress and apply your make up is a style.

I personally grew up absolutely in love with the darker side of things - piercings, tattoos, (both of which I have), "weird and hideous haircuts" and all.

It's closed minded and snobby people like YOU that I was taught to find unattractive.

I agree with the above comment, this came across as snobby.

^ if i could like her comment i would. i may not choose to dress and cut my hair that way, but its crazy that you think you have the right to trash her. its just not right..maybe i'll start a blog about the girls who are obsessed with beauty. just because youre beautiful outside doesnt make you beautiful inside.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I currently have just as many facial piercings, have had my hair cut in crazy ways with wild colors and I loved the way I looked. Why does someone looking "different" bother you so much? I find the look quite interesting and cool. But to say her look is "ew"...I'm sorry we can't all be and WANT to be what you would consider attractive and "normal".

I have seen people with body piercings look beautiful. And people with "strange" haircuts look beautiful. And yes, even people with bleached eyebrows look beautiful. Combining the three on Rooney Mara for this particular movie? Not beautiful! And I don't think it was intended to be beautiful. It was intended to be tough and edgy and strange and dark, which is GREAT for the movie-- but I wouldn't as a business executive think that it means that people are all going to want to run out and look just like the woman in it... Just my opinion. :)

yes this is hideous

The piercings aren't really my style but they're ok. The eyebrow bleaching is just...weird. but WTF is up with that hair?! I think that's the ugliest hair style I've ever seen.

She never said piercings, tattoos, weird haircuts or etc are bad. Just all this together is ugly and it is.

My dad used to walk up behind people like this and say "I didnt know it was Halloween" LOL He was born in 1939 and grew up in a very strict catholic household (your body is your temple you do not destroy it etc)  =)

i have to agree with Lindsay... i am sorry but those who go around with an immense about of any of the aforementioned amenities are asking to have something said or thought. when individuals go to that extreme, there is likely an underlying issue. not one person i know who dresses this way had a sound childhood, or currently holds a well-deserved career. there is a stereotype simply because for the most part, it is true. don't get all hot an bothered because of an opinion. not once did she state this as a fact. if my kid dressed close to this...well...i wouldn't let it happen.

when i say well-desereved, i mean holds a high degree in college
