Rain Boots on Sunny Days: Would You? Could You?

Rain BootsRain boots on a day like this? REALLY?

The other day here in Nashville, it was about 81 degrees. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. I came across an expensively-dressed women in a to-die-for draped top, designer skinny jeans, and ...

Rain boots.

Hunter rain boots, but still. Rain boots.

It looked really weird to me, like wearing a bikini in Antarctica. Or wearing ski bibs in Tahiti. And she's not the only one I've seen lately wearing rain boots on sunny days. It's a "thing." So I'll put the question to you:

Are rain boots appropriate when there's no chance in hell of any rain?

I mean, my college-aged stepdaughter has been wearing her rain boots whenever she felt like it for years, but she's, you know, quirky. And 20 years old. It seemed really weird to see a woman in her 30s doing the same thing.

On the other hand, I love all the cute rain boots out there lately. I bought a pair of Hunter boots two years ago and haven't regretted it -- they're fantastic and I admit I look forward to rainy and snowy days so that I can wear the heck out of them.

But I realized that I wouldn't dream of just wearing them around town on a sunny, warm day.

I'm not being judgmental here -- this was a visceral reaction I had to seeing the rain boots. I'd still hang out with the woman (unless she was a raving you-know-what, I mean). I'd still be her friend.

But I might still privately question her desire to wear rain boots on a warm and sunny day.

So, ladies. Am I being overly fussy in finding rain boots out of place when it's not actually raining? Or do you find this trend odd as well?
