'Miracle Dress' Knockoff Is a Cheap Way to Look Skinnier

kate winslet miracle dressWe all want clothes that make us feel trimmer, right? I mean, who wouldn't want to "shed pounds" without spending hours at the gym? Which is why I'm head-over-heels for the dress Kate Winslet wore in Venice recently. She looks so retro, so sleek, so ... slender! The only problem? Well, the media-dubbed "miracle dress" made by Stella McCartney retails for a cool $1,595. I don't know about you, but I definitely do NOT have that sort of cash just lying around for a date-night outfit splurge.

Luckily, other designers are catching on to the whole black, side-panel slimming concept. Phew! In fact, there's a miracle dress knockoff available in-stock right now online at ASOS.com! You'll never guess how much it costs ...

Less than half the price of Kate's! Let me take that back: It's less than half the 50 percent-off price of Kate's. As in, only $82.33. That's SO much less than my gym membership. Squeeeee! Let's take a look:

TFNC pencil midi dress

To be honest, I sort of like the TFNC Pencil Midi Dress ($82.33, ASOS.com) better than Winslet's. Anything red and I'm sold! Aside from the slimming illusion this little number pulls off, the neckline is more flattering than the McCartney original. Plus, this cheaper version hits nicely at the knee, rather than below.

In fact, overall, the shape of the dress is just to die for. Can you say automatic fantastic curves? It totally looks Kardashian-esque. For those of you who aren't into the whole deep red thing, it also comes in an eye-popping royal blue. And an additional bonus? ASOS.com has free shipping both ways with no minimum purchase required. A dress that slims you down about two sizes and costs nothing to ship? I'll take two, please!

What do you think about this "miracle dress" knockoff?

I like the knock off better. The original looks too sporty for my tastes. Kind of like a backwards sports bra.

Cap sleeves aren't good on me but I still WANT IT NOW!

I just ordered it in plum.

Very cute and such a good idea. :)

That original is UGLY, UGLY, UGLY on top. That cut just makes your shoulders look broader than they are. That's too 80's for me, yuk. Not a complimentary look for anyone (unless they have tiny shoulders and need the width) :(

The dress isn't magic. Notice that it only works against a black background. See how the photographer carefully caught her in front of men in dark suits.

The "waist" on the knock-off is way too small, it doesn't pull off the illusion.

The waist on the knock off, is so obvious that it has no illusion at all,it merely looks like a 2 tone dress. I dislike the knock off.

I like the writing but I'm wondering if Emily Abbate is getting payola from ASOS - that would NOT be cool (but this feels like one of those "articles").
