Nicki Minaj Stole This 'Puff Balls' Shirt at Fashion Week

nicki minajHip-hop star Nicki Minaj is known for her phatty beats -- did I just say "phatty beats"? -- as well as her outlandish sense of style. She's been bouncing around all of Fashion Week these past couple of days, taking in shows from the front row. For Carolina Herrera's Spring 2012 collection, Nicki was not only front row center, but was seated next to Vogue editor and style-maker Anna Wintour. That's the big time, Nicki!

But there was a shadow cast over that high fashion moment, a dark, dark cloud full of secrecy and lies. I'm talking of course about Nicki's "puff ball" shirt. Don't be fooled by its bright colors and happy pom-pom vibes -- it's a shirt made of deceit and blasphemy.

Why? Because Nicki stole it.

Oh excuse me, allegedly stole it. Sort of. Here's what happened. Nicki needed some new weird clothes for Fashion Week. Her stylist and costume maker contacted weird-clothes-maker Jessica Rogers. Jessica was so psyched that Minaj reached out to her and sent Minaj's stylist a bunch of drawings and photos, anything to grab her attention.

Jessica never heard back from Minaj's camp and eventually figured they didn't go with any of her ideas. THEN, Nicki shows up to the Herrera fashion show wearing the puff ball shirt, and Jessica becomes furious! That shirt is a total rip-off of Jessica's puff ball dress.

Seeing as Jessica's bold enough to glue some fuzzy colored balls on some muslin and call it a dress, she's bold enough to go after Minaj and her team for stealing her design. She told Fashionista:

When I saw the photos [of Minaj at Carolina Herrera] I was in tears. I’ve worked very hard to make my dream of being a fashion designer come true. I have built contacts with Teen Vogue, Gaga, Katy Perry, and Marina and the Diamonds has worn my garments. [Now] I feel like everything has crumbled down.

To which I say, pick those puff balls off the ground girl, and get back on the fashion horse! Jessica can hopefully use Nicki's alleged janking of her design as a stepping stone for her career. Before today, I had no idea who Jessica Rogers was, nor that puff balls were like an OK thing to wear out in public, and now because of Nicki's thievery, I know about both!

Here's hoping that Jessica gets the credit she may or may not deserve for her arts and crafts designs. Who knew so much ado would be over a hot glue gun and some pom poms ... excuse me ... puff balls?

Do you think designer Jessica Rogers deserves credit for Nicki Minaj's shirt?
