Missoni for Target Debut Crashes Site

by Lindsay Ferrier on September 13, 2011 at 8:54 AM

TargetShoppers eager to snatch up the new Missoni for Target collection were met with this image when they tried to access Target.com this morning.

The collection, which debuts today, is so popular that would-be Missoni owners crashed the site!

Are you eager to buy?

At 7:30 this morning, I already had a message on my Facebook page from a friend telling me about the site crash. She said that even the customer service phone lines were jammed! But she didn't even have to let me know -- I had already tried to get on the site myself!

I'm iffy on the women's clothing for myself, but I definitely want to pick up a few of the crazy-patterned knit pieces for my 7-year-old daughter.

Early risers were able to buy Missoni before the site crashed. According to Twitterers:

Up early for Missoni at Target after stalking it for weeks, and suddenly I am paralyzed with indecision. -@mariannecanada

up shopping missoni for @target online before i kick off day 5 of #nyfw! crazy about the zig zag front panel dress. -danaoliver

It's okay if you woke up at 7am to shop Missoni for @TargetStyle - we did. -@NylonMag

Even Katie Couric Tweeted yesterday that the line would debut today!

I'm not sure I've ever seen this much excitement over a Target designer collaboration.

You can see more of the 400-piece collection here. Many of you disliked it when I showed you some of my favorites from the lookbook, but I have to say that I'm cautiously optimistic about it. I can't wait to see the reviews as shoppers begin to buy the pieces in stores today and put their thoughts online.

Will you shop this collection?

After the disappointment that was the Calypso collection this summer, I wanted to check the Missoni stuff out in person rather than buying anything online sight-unseen. I'm planning to go on my lunch hour, but I hope now that there will be stuff left in my size!

Maybe I'll have to "get sick" between now and then and sneak out early!  *cough cough* I feel a terrible cold coming on . . .

the kids stuff would be cute for my oldest daughter. i think the only things i'd actually wear / use are the barrettes and the makeup bags though.

I want to see the 3T size for DD.  As much as the clothes aren't really me they are my little girl.

I was at my local Target at 8:10 and ALL of the clothes and housewares were gone!! There were a few kids items and some sticky notes left! People were in line at 2am and rushed the doors when the store opened. There were a few shoppers (obviously early birds) with carts LOADED to the brim strolling around with smug looks on their faces. Not a fun morning...

I ordered everything online at 6:15am this morning and got all I wanted. About $900 worth of stuff. Hope the crash did not affect my order, though!

SCORED all my Missoni stuff this morning! Got no sleep (used alarm to check website every hour since midnight!) and GOT IN AT 6:16AM!! My first order went smoothly but then the site started slowing down aka CRASHING so I tried a million different ways and what worked was clicking on the "Compare" button and then buying up everything I wanted that way, three items at a time. Took a bit longer but spent about $2K and got everything on my list. Christmas here we come!
