Lady Gaga's No-Makeup Look Shows Her Gutsy Side (PHOTO)

no makeup lady gaga harper's bazaarOh Lady Gaga, you're such a chameleon. One second, you're channeling your male alter-ego Jo Calderone at MTV's Video Music Awards, and the next you're bare-faced on the cover of October's Harper's Bazaar.

It's certainly a refreshing change of pace from the wackadoodle Gaga we've come to know and love. The 25-year-old starlet tells Harper's, "Whether I'm wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I'm always the same person inside."

I agree with her, I do. But just because I'm the same Emily with or without makeup on doesn't mean I feel wonderful. To be brutally honest, without at least a little dusting of bronzer and a sweep of mascara, I feel like crap.

I am a confident woman, I swear. But I have no problem admitting that, like many other women, makeup does wonderful things to boost my natural confidence. Unless I'm heading to the gym, I feel sort of like I left something behind without my basic beauty essentials in place. Dare I say it ... naked, even. Putting on my 5-minute face has become second nature to me. It's what I feel is necessary to start my day on the right foot. Not to mention, unlike Gaga, I don't feel like I look good without it. But hey -- that could just be a personal thing.

If millions of women didn't feel the same way I do, then cosmetics wouldn't be such a booming industry. That, and ladies definitely wouldn't be shelling out the big bucks for brand name products. Everyone is entitled to feel like the best version of themselves, and if makeup enables that feeling, I don't think there's any fault in wearing it regularly.

Nevertheless, kudos to you, Lady Gaga. It's a pretty ballsy thing to step out of the house without your face, let alone grace newsstands all over the country that way. Lucky for you, you really do look like a natural beauty. Not to mention, you have so many fans (like me!) to tell you that you look great, it won't matter what the haters have to say. Rock on, Gaga.

What do you think of Gaga's look on the cover of Harper's Bazaar? Do you leave the house without makeup?
