'The Rachel Zoe Project' Premiere Recap: Brad Leaves a Void

Rachel Zoe Tonight season four of The Rachel Zoe Project premiered with some major changes from seasons past. The first, of course, was Rachel's newest accessory -- a baby bump. At six months along when this was filmed, said bump was about the size of a normal person's cheeseburger bloat. But she and her husband Rodger (who never fails to disappoint with his adorableness) were obviously thrilled with the imminent arrival of their son ... or at least thrilled to buy him clothes, in Rachel's case.

The other big change -- Brad Goreski is gone. I know Rachel's the star of the show, but she and Brad were so good together and I spent most of the show missing him, his nervous energy, and dapper style. I knew he wouldn't be there, as they announced their split last fall, but I didn't know just how bad the blood between them was. At the time, Zoe dripped nothing but praise for Brad. Last September she told People:

We have a relationship that’s not normal. I jump into bed with him and wake him up and we have these pow wows and he’s like, "Wow, I haven’t brushed my teeth." I don’t want to hire somebody for the purpose of the show, we just got lucky. No one’s ever going to be Brad to me.

Fast forward to this September, and she had no kind words about Brad whatsoever on the show. She said Brad told her and Rodger that the reason he was leaving was that he wanted to slow his life down and "get out of the limelight," but that wasn't the case.

“ ... of course, within a week of us parting, when Brad went out on his own as a stylist he started to pursue our clients, started going to all these events and doing all the things he said he had no interest in," she said.

First Taylor, now Brad. Rachel said she's learned her lesson. "It's not the first time I've been used. I would say it's going to be the last time, though."

Let's hope Jeremiah Brent knows that. He's the new Brad replacement Rachel had hired by the end of the show to fill the void left by Brad. Adorable and charismatic, but without much experience, he seems a lot like Brad and Taylor. I'm not sure why she thinks he'll turn out any different, but hopefully he'll work out ... until he doesn't.

He certainly got a baptism by fire as Rachel was preparing to debut her new fashion line (which is fabulous) to editors and buyers in New York, plus do her styling work, find a new home, and, oh yeah, grow a baby. Besides making her a bit more tired than usual and prohibiting her from being able to suck in her stomach for a photo shoot, pregnancy didn't seem to slow her down too much. She could perhaps blame the fact that she had no idea what dodge ball was on baby brain though. (Yes, she was serious.)

In any case, it's great to see her back on the air. Her style as always was impeccable and her quirky personality infectious. But I still miss Brad.

What did you think of the premiere of season four of The Rachel Zoe Project? Did you miss Brad? What do you think of Jeremiah?
