Here’s the Only Thing That Can Replace Kate Middleton

kate middletonHey guys, guess what? There's some brand spankin' new Kate Middleton news for you today. No, the secret to what makes her glorious tresses so shiny hasn't been revealed; and, negatory if you think there's a wee little prince baking in her royal oven. Actually, this news isn't even about Duchess Catherine directly. It's about her wedding dress. And the redonkulous money it's making Buckingham Palace.

Since the exhibit opened on July 23, Kate Middleton's Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress has attracted more than 354,000 visitors, with ticket sales expected to reach around $13 million. Profits from the $27 tickets (!) will go to William and Kate's wedding charity fund, as well as ... the royal family (shocker), who will use their portion of the funds to maintain and restore the Royal Collection, which includes "palaces, residences, and extensive art collections." A spokesperson for the Royal Collection said: "This year has been our highest to date. The wedding dress has proved very popular."

"Very popular"? Um ... ya think? This is pretty much the most talked about, looked at, written about wedding dress in the history of the universe. And with good reason -- it's drop dead gorg. The lace sleeves, the plunging neckline, the Grace Kelly-esqueness of it all. Stunning. Flawless. Fit for a (future) queen.

Would I pay 27 bucks to see Kate's dress? Probably. If I were already in jolly ol' England. 'Cause I'm a geek like that. But I must admit, I do sort of find it funny that Kate's dress -- and not Kate herself -- is the thing that's making the palace all this cash. It's like the dress has become a celebrity in its own right. It has a life of its own. It's no longer Kate Middleton and her wedding dress, it's just "the wedding dress."

I wonder if my wedding dress will ever become really famous. Like, separate from me famous. I should probably take her out of the closet at my parents' house and dust the ol' gal off. Who knows how much cash that J.Crew bad boy will be able to fetch me? 'Cause I've gotta be honest, I'd really like to go to Puerto Rico this Thanksgiving.

Would you pay to see Kate's dress? What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
