Dolmans, Batwings, and Cocoons, Oh My!

NordstromEver since having children, there's nothing I adore more than a loose-fitting, drapey top (generally paired with skinny jeans), and luckily, this season has plenty of them up for grabs!

Variations include dolman-sleeved, batwing, ponchos and capes, and cocoon-style tops and cardigans.

Confused about what's what?

You won't be after reading this post!

To the left, Express has paired this metallic dolman sweater with a leopard print top. LOVE this combination.

NordstromNordstrom featured this Caslon Marled Poncho (Nordstrom, $89) in its fall catalog and it's getting rave reviews.

TalbotsI keep coming back to this batwing top (Talbots, $74.25 on sale). The nice wide band at the hips keeps you from looking enormous.

BlueflyI have a black cocoon cardigan very similar to this Rebecca Beeson Cocoon (Bluefly, $64) and I LOVE it. I end up wearing it all the time. The cut is very drapey and flattering.

White House Black MarketAnd White House Black Market also went neutral with its Dolman Sweater (White House Black Market, $88).

So, to review ...

A dolman top has sleeves with armholes that may extend all the way to the waistline.

A batwing top resembles a batwing and also has deep armholes.

A cocoon generally is a cardigan with sleeves but no armholes. It's like a wrap with wristbands.

A poncho or cape has no sleeves at all, but instead drapes over your arms.

Any questions?
