Like Miley Cyrus missed the memo about wearing stilettos, I somehow missed the memo that the Muppets are fashionable. I get that Miss Piggy wears boas and huge diamonds and stuff, but the Muppets on the whole aren't known for their style, are they? I guess Fozzie has nice fur and all, and Gonzo looks dapper in a tie, but why oh why are the Muppets collaborating with exclusive store Opening Ceremony and launching a nail polish collection with OPI. Seriously, I want to know why.
Photos of the nail colors after the jump.
Apparently, Miss Piggy will be on hand at the Ace Hotel in NYC (where the too-cool-for-school Opening Ceremony store is) to debut her collection during Fashion Night Out. Maybe we should all expect tutus and feathers and Mary Jane shoes and glitter from Miss P, but I'm just kind of confused as to why no one is admitting that Miss Piggy isn't real. She's a felt puppet with a man's fist up her ass. So who's designing this?
It gets weirder because now the Muppets have a nail polish collection. The Muppets movie comes out later this year, but why are they choosing fashion and beauty to promote the flick? "They" not being the Muppets of course, but the studio execs. Seems odd, no? I've never thought that the fashion crowd was particularly Muppet-happy, but I see now I'm wrong. Or, on the other hand, not in the fashion crowd.
Here are the Muppet nail colors for OPI that are coming out for the holidays, 2011.
Here we've got from left to right: Getting Piggy With It, Excuse Moi, Fresh Frog of Bel Air, Gone Gonzo.
And Rainbow Connection, Divine Swine, Warm and Fozzie, Designers De Better.
Finally, Pepe's Purple Passion, Wocka Wocka, Meep Meep Meep, Animalistic.
"Getting Piggy With It" is clearly the best name in the group, and maybe the coolest color too, so that's my fave. But I'm still going to ignore this whole Muppets Take Fashion phenomenon because frankly, I don't get it.
Do you?

I don't get it either and I honestly think they are all kinda fugly.
I think most of these are AWESOME (with the exception of Fresh Frog of Bel Air, Gone Gonzo, I'm not a big fan of crazy colors on my nails). And, lately, everyone's been coming out with nail polishes, so why not the Muppets? It is weird? Kinda. But I'm cool with it.
I kind of like them. Minus the Rainbow one.
Pick on me if you will, but I love them! lol =)
So then you're not a fan of nail polish or the Muppets? Then clearly you aren't part of their target audience. And yes, clearly there's a target audience for this stuff or else they wouldn't have tried it in the first place.
Another nail polish collaboration. Yawn. Everyone's doing it these days. I'll stick with my Essie.
I am not big on nail polish except on my toes during the summer, but I will TOTALLY seek out and buy more than one of these! I love "meep meep meep" that is cracking me up!
As long as they don't "redesign" the Muppets like they've been doing with other '80s icons (Strawberry Shortcake, for example), I don't care. And I'm loving "Gettin' Piggy With It. And Warm and Fozzy)
Those are actually really cute colors!
