Here's a report on the magazine spread from Good Morning America:

My thoughts? Seeing these photos makes me shudder.

As the mother of a 7-year-old girl, I feel like I'm constantly shielding my daughter against an onslaught of popular opinion and media images trying to convince her to grow up too fast. From the kissing scenes that are now staples on popular tween programming from Nickelodeon to Kidz Bop renditions of Lady Gaga hits to makeup and hair products created for and marketed to young girls, I feel like I have to protect her innocence at every turn.

Girls have a precious few years to be children. Why take even one of those years away?

With that in mind, I have to say that this magazine spread bothers me a lot. I would like to think that we as adults could unite to protect EVERY child's innocence for as long as possible. Apparently, that's not the case. Thylane's parents failed her by letting her appear in this spread. Her agent failed her. French Vogue failed her. The photographer failed her. Who was her advocate?

And where do we as a society draw the line?

Thoughts?
