Eyelash Extensions: Yay or Nay?

Lavish LashesOn the subject of eyelashes, my friend from Manhattan told me that all of her girlfriends have been getting eyelash extensions.

Eyelash extensions are bonded to your real lashes by a professional, and last around four to six weeks. The Stir writer Michele Zipp just got some and wrote about them here.

The "Lavish Lashes" pictured at the left aren't the only eyelash extensions out there -- do a search in any mid-size city and it's fairly easy to find a salon that will do them for you.

"Have you thought of getting them?" my NY friend asked me the other day. "All my friends have been doing it."

"No, I haven't," I said. "How do their lashes look?"

"AMAZING," she said. "But there's one big problem ..."

"My friends' real eyelashes fell out when their extensions did," she said.

"WHAT?!" I sputtered.

She nodded. "Yep. That's why I haven't done it."

I don't know whether her friends are having it done cheaply or by professionals who aren't correctly trained, but that's enough to terrify me. I looked up on the Internet whether real eyelashes falling out with extensions was an isolated incident -- it wasn't.

Also? It's expensive. Here in Nashville, eyelash extensions START at $200. In NYC, it's closer to $400.

I think I'll stick with my own DIY eyelash extensions, thank you very much. They cost me about $2.50 per week.

What about you? Have you gotten eyelash extensions? Would you?
