'Glee' Cast Betrays Fans With Fashion's Night Out

glee castSay it isn't so, Gleeks! Our beloved outsiders, our Lima losers have made pals with the Devil Who Wears Prada herself, Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Apparently Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, and Darren Criss will be spokespeople for this year's "Fashion's Night Out" on September 8. If you're not familiar, the event is a global retail shindig during which participating stores offer special products, discounts, and extended hours.

This match -- made by Bee Shaffer, who is the Vogue editrix's daughter and an intern at Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s production company -- is not one made in heaven as far as I'm concerned.

See, Wintour, Vogue, and the fashion world we're talking about -- the one involved with Fashion's Night Out -- are all fabulous. But not in a Glee, "be yourself" way. More in a "you can and should only ASPIRE to look so great" way, which prides itself on high-end fashion that most of us cannot afford and beauty/body products that are often sold by harping on women's (and some men's) insecurities.

You'd think this WORLD would be pretty much 180 degrees from what the Gleesters represent. Anna Wintour's the Ice Queen of the In-Crowd. Glee may be one of the biggest shows on TV, but the message they send is not one about wanting to be popular. It's about being cool with not being cool. So, being involved in Fashion's Night Out -- it feels like they're not so much celebrating as they're selling out.

Still, I guess it had to come to this. Maybe we should be cheering, and take this as a sign that our favorite Gleeks are not just loveable, but -- dare I say it -- FASHIONABLE? Being uncool is now hip? The haute couture crowd is embracing those who believe they were just "Born This Way"? Bleh. I'm not buying it. But I'm SURE it'll be marketed in a way that sells.

What do you think about the Glee cast getting involved in Fashion's Night Out?
