Prince William and Kate Middleton (aka the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) have spent the past few whirlwind days in Hollywood rubbing elbows with other rich, famous people. Kate, a brunette with real boobs and an un-Botoxed face doesn't fit the plastic definition of La La Land beauty and at Saturday night's black-tie BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) dinner event she naturally outshone them all.

She should have since she was the hostess -- William, the Duke of Cambridge, is the president of BAFTA. The theme of the event was supposedly 42 "Brits to Watch" -- though of course we all know it was really "OMG OMG We Get to Meet Prince William and Kate Middleton!"

Just look at that gorgeous gown!

The 29-year-old royal was stunning in an Alexander McQueen floor-length pleated lilac chiffon gown. (The Duchess favored McQueen throughout her visit to Canada as well.) She wore her own jewelry except for her earrings, which were lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. Kate further accessorized with a silver Jimmy Choo "Ubai" clutch and silver sandals.

Earlier last week, fashionistas everywhere were speculating whether or not Canadian soldiers had ruined Kate's dress "surprise"  they loaded luggage onto the Royal plane in Canada on Wednesday. One of the soldiers lifted a garment bag containing a rosy pleated floor-length gown and belt, which sent tongues a wagging.

It looks like that was indeed the dress, but that "sneak peek" of Kate's gown in a garment bag in no way took away from the way she wowed on the red carpet. Prince William wore some kind of black tux (who cares, really?) and didn't look too shabby himself.

Two-hundred-fifty guests attended the $25,000-per-table dinner and those lucky enough to be seated at the royal table were: Nicole Kidman, Barbra Streisand, James Brolin, Donna Langley (co-chairman of Universal Pictures), Duncan Kenworthy (vice chairman of BAFTA), Jamie Lowther-Pinketrown (the prince's private secretary), diplomat Sir David Manning and British consul-general Dame Barbara Hay.

What do you think of the gown Kate Middleton wore to the BAFTA event?
