Former supermodel Janice Dickinson isn't exactly known for her modesty.
But the 56-year-old caught the eye of even the most jaded members of the paparazzi the other day when she stepped out in a teeny weeny bikini.
With this look, Janice proves that there comes a time in every woman's life when even the most svelte should probably hang up the skimpy two-piece forever. (And if you're stil in doubt, check out the rear view on this suit in this Daily Mail post.)
Obviously, Janice can wear whatever she wants, but I could think of a few swimsuits that would have made her look FABULOUSLY SEXY, and age-appropriate. (And you, too, for that matter.)
Want to see them? Read on!
I saw a woman in Hilton Head a few weeks ago wearing this Shell Beach Ruffled Tankini Top and Bottom (Lands' End, $34.50, $31) and she looked so amazing that I immediately ordered my own when I got home. This swimsuit is stunning with a little bit of cleavage, and it's the first look I thought of when I saw Janice. The effect is still flirty, but a saggy bum and tummy would be covered up.
This Magicsuit Plunge Tankini Top and Firm Control Skirted bottom (Victoria's Secret, $96, $54), would allow Janice to look totally sexy and age-appropriate.
I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I'm totally coveting this Firm Control Convertible One-Piece (Victoria's Secret, $126 on sale), which can be worn as a swim dress, a one-piece, or a micro-mini sarong. Janice? Are you reading?
Or Janice could opt for hot retro style with this Cherry Swimsuit (Pinup Girl Clothing, $78).
What do you think of Janice's bikini body? How old is too old when it comes to wearing bikinis?

My daughter looked over at that picture of Janice and went "oh look at that man"
Thank you for this! I can't tell you how many women (and girls, frankly) I have wanted to say this to.
I do not understand the obsession that our society has with the bikini. Ok, I get the whole "easier to go to the bathroom" idea. It's the very reason that I dress my voluptuous self in a tankini. One-pieces are a nightmare when they're wet and you have to pee. But there are SO MANY people who might have an ok body (like Ms. Dickenson) that is just horrible in a bikini, but would totally rock a tankini or one-piece. Not to mention the ladies (and girls) who could stand to lose a pound or fifty. But they insist on the skimpy. Do they not see themselves? Is it so important to them to say, "I have a bikini" even though it doesn't place them in the best light? I don't get it.
To answer the second part of your question - how old is too old? I don't really know that one. I think it would depend upon each individual figure, skin condition, "sag factor", etc. Bikini's are not for everyone. Swimming, however, is, and everyone deserves to look awesome by the water.
Personally, I would rather see Janice in this tiny suit than to see all the XXL women trying to squeeze into suits that obviously don't fit. That is way more nasty than seeing an old skinny lady!
Just because it comes in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it.
I have to admit that when I went to the beach a few weeks ago, there were several 50+ women walking around in bikinis who would have looked SO much better in a one-piece. I think it's okay to have an opinion on this issue. It's nothing personal- the women are all probably very nice. But I don't think they would have wanted to attract the kind of negative attention they were attracting, had they known they were attracting it! Once you reach a certain age, even daily workouts aren't going to cover the skin sag- and that's easily camouflaged in a slightly more modest swimsuit. Janice would have actually looked younger and hotter if she had covered her stomach and rear end.
The main problem with Janice Dickenson isn't her age but her addiction to plastic surgery and being too thin. That's what's making her look like shit. If she'd quit injecting her face with plastic and poison, eat a sandwich now and then and had worn some sunscreen back in the day, she'd look pretty good. As it is, she can't stay out of the operating room and the gym and she looks like a sinewy old dude...kinda like Mick Jagger in drag.
I don't think most women look their best in teeny bikinis. And your skin doesn't have to look like this in your 50's. Wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun as much as possible, don't smoke, don't drink (much) alcohol, keep your stress level low, and don't get too skinny.
