Continuing my (and most of the rest of America's) obsession with all things Mad Men, I was elated to see the news that Banana Republic has teamed with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, and will release a Mad Men-inspired capsule collection in August.
YAY.
Banana Republic is the perfect partner for Bryant. It allows her to design with slightly more upscale fabrics and still present a reasonably priced collection.
And judging by the photos, this collection is going to be HOT.
Click through to see the entire line of women's wear, which will be available in stores and online July 25.
Check these photos out and then tell me which one is your fave:

I'm particularly partial to the taffeta dress (although I have no idea where I'd wear it), the belted trench, and the leopard print cardigan.
Overall, I adore this collection -- it remains true to the Mad Men aesthetic. Bryant told The New York Times many of the pieces from the line came directly from the show. At the same time it's current and modern enough for real life.
Kewl.
The 65-piece collection includes menswear, too. I sense a his-n-her shopping trip coming up in my very near future ...
What do you think of the new capsule collection?

Smart move, especially since none of it looks any different than the clothing BR already sells, it's just styled differently.
my favorite is the houndstooth sheath dress with the piled-on necklaces. Perfect!
These are beautiful! That houndstooth is my favorite, too (the grey suit maybe not so much). I'm hoping only the truly stylish folk wear these retro looks, carrying thru the whole hair, jewelry, body-carriage etc, as any generational wink in fashion just falls flat (or worse) on the wrong people — rendering them as kids wearing their grand/parents' clothes — or looks 'costume-y.'
I like these fairly well, but none of them well enough to buy them. I am excited at the prospect that more feminine-looking clothing is likely to be available in the future.
Stockings look so much better than bare legs!!!!!!
