Let's begin this by saying that I LOVE Kate Middleton. LOVE her.
And Prince William seems like a right nice chap as well.
Together, Kate and William seem like they get along very well.
But watching them over the course of a few hours, I was struck by the fact that they seemed like ...
FRIENDS.
*shudder*
Good friends.
And their kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace sealed the deal.
When they kissed on that balcony, it lasted all of a second or two and it was pretty passionless -- this coming from someone who wants nothing more for them than eternal happiness.
Then, a couple of minutes later, it was as if William realized how that must have looked. I watched the video again this afternoon and he said something to Kate like, "Another kiss? Another? Another?" And then he leaned in and planted another one on her, sort of mechanically.
I wasn't expecting a make-out session, but come on. YOU JUST MARRIED ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN ALIVE. KISS HER LIKE YOU MEAN IT.
And that's not all ...
Did you know that this marked the first time William has ever kissed Kate in public in their eight years together?
Yikes.
I'm hoping that their hands-off approach was simply due to being overwhelmed by protocol and large crowds and their consciousness of their role as royalty.
I really do think they love each other and have affection and concern for each other's well being.
But I just don't see that "spark" between them. I know you know what I'm talking about.
Anyone else get this vibe?
Or am I completely reading this wrong?

Didn't you see how they both reacted afterwards? They both were a bit giddy, it was cute. I think they were told to keep it simple and this is not something they do in public- they, in fact, have had to work extra hard over the years NOT to be affectionate in public. Kissing in front of MILLIONS of screaming people? I think that would be rather difficult.
But, he swooped in the first time effortlessly. The know each other and they ARE friends. And their actions after the kiss really proved to me that they are happy and excited about this whole event- and the smiles and exuberance they command show that they are in tune and that there is a spark between them.
I don't get those vibes at all. They looked very relax and comfortable with each and that fact that they known each other for quite some time makes a difference.
I know what you're saying, Lindsay. I felt the same exact way.
I believe that they are truly in love with each other.
They were kissing in front of the whole world. Of course it wouldn't look like it may if they were in a more private setting. And as for him never kissing her in public before now: hey, they're British. And royalty. No surprise there. You cant make a determination of how happy a couple is from one (or two) kisses.
It did look a little forced but I am also hoping it was just due to the crowds!
They've been together for EIGHT years; I'm willing to bet they've kissed before. And, like you said, this is the first time they've kissed in public. I bet to do that in front of the world on their wedding day was a bit surreal. Besides, the royal family isn't exactly known for their PDAs or liberal public personas. They both seemed very happy and content with each other- even if the kiss wasn't what we're used to seeing commoners do, because they are not commoners; they are royalty and the rules are a little different in Buckingham Palace.
