The most beautiful woman in the land just got richer. We're all still the same. Life continues to be a gross imbalance of power. Angelina Jolie recently signed on to be the new face of Louis Vuitton luggage, a deal worth nearly $10 million. The global campaign will be shot by Annie Leibovitz and will appear only in print form this summer.
I'm a little bit torn on how I feel about this. On one hand, Angelina is a non-stop traveler, so who better to promote luggage? And the woman can travel in style -- an art I have yet to master. (No matter how hard I try, sweatpants and UGGs just don't look high-fashion on me.) On the other hand, doesn't she try to not make herself out to be this fancy-pants, designer-loving kind of lady? In fact, doesn't she try to do the opposite? She's usually all, "Oh, I'm just a mom with 20 kids who wears the same jeans four days in a row. Also, I like knives." Hmmm ... will the real Angelina please stand up.
I think Angelina should just own it. She's the face of Louis Vuitton for a reason -- she's unbelievably gorgeous and super-duper rich. Aren't those the types of people Louis Vuitton is catering to? And she's a woman of the world! Everybody knows that if there's one thing women of the world need, it's a solid set of luggage. When I get my WOTW card, that's the first thing I'm buying.
I would love to see Angelina start walking around in giant diamonds and fluffy minks, lighting cigarettes with hundred-dollar bills. How awesome would that be? That's definitely what I would do if I were rich, none of that Goodwill Ambassador crap.
You need to be a fierce B to be the face of Louis. You have to be glam. You have to be cool. You have to be totally and completely unrelatable. Like, no offense to Jennifer Aniston -- I love her and all, but that is not the face of Louis Vuitton luggage. That is the face of yoga wear. Or Smartwater.
As a non-patron of anything LV (by necessity, not choice), I am pleased with the decision to have Angie hock their goods. Because every time I look at their luggage, I think, "Man, I will never have that." And when I look at Angelina's life, I think the same thing.
What do you think of Angelina Jolie being the face of Louis Vuitton luggage?
