If I didn't know any better, I would think this woman was taking the Twilight/Vampire Diaries trend a little too seriously. But the reality is Maria Jose Cristerna, Mexico's "Vampire Woman," is a 35-year-old mother-of-four and trained lawyer. (I think she could win any case just by glaring at someone, right?)
She was interviewed yesterday at a tattoo exhibition in Monterrey, Mexico, and explained to reporters that her extreme body art has helped her "free" herself from her abusive past.
In addition to being tattooed from head to toe, Cristerna has titanium "horn" implants, dental "fangs," and multiple facial piercings.
Looking at her terrifying appearance, you'd never guess this woman at any point could lead a normal life, or that she continues to lead one now. She looks like she walked right off the set of a new HBO series or the Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake!
But it's all about self-empowerment for Cristerna. As she shared with the British newspaper, The Sun:
The horns I have are a symbol of strength and were implanted without anaesthetic. I had the fangs done because I loved vampires as a little girl and I changed the colour of my eyes so they were how I really wanted them to be. Tattooing is my way of being immortal, of really being a vampire and not dying -- leaving my work on other people's skin.
If this is the skin she's most comfortable in, then more power to her! But I don't think I can look at her anymore, or my skin is going to crawl right off!
If you're still intrigued, though, here's a video of Cristerna in action, giving an interview (in Spanish).
What do you think about Cristerna's vampire look?
