Kate Middleton will be wearing flats underneath her wedding gown, according to The Huffington Post.
Of course, they'll be the finest flats you ever did see... "Royal Contributor" Yvonne York reports that insiders tell her "the shoes (more like slippers) will be covered with multiple layers of silk, and heavily embroidered."
This brought to mind a fact I hadn't thought about in a lonnnnnnng time.
Most brides I've known have gone for comfort over style beneath their wedding gown ... Simply put, the last thing you want to be thinking about during one of the most important moments of your life is how much your feet hurt.
Also? Who wants to trip and fall while walking down the aisle?
So now I want to know: What kind of shoes did you wear underneath your wedding gown?
I wore a satin and crystal-encrusted pair of kitten heel mules. That was quite a compromise for me since I spend most of my time (even more back then, before I had small children to handle) in high heels.
The only way I would have worn heels was if I were significantly shorter than my husband. Since he's only a few inches taller than me, kitten heels seemed to be the way to go.
I imagine Kate's wearing flats because her gown is likely to be ornate, and with all the royal procedures she'll have to follow on her wedding day, she's not going to want to chance heels in Westminster Abbey.
York says Kate has ordered three more pairs of shoes for her wedding day, though, in different heel heights, which she'll wear for the other events of the day. Those events will include a wedding lunch, a balcony appearance, a photo shoot, and a dinner and dance.
I hope Kate also has ordered an extra large bottle of Excedrin to get her through that day! Sheesh.
More than a few brides have opted for specially-decorated flip-flops to wear beneath their gowns, prompting bridal shops to carry a wide selection of them.
You can even choose from an assortment of bridal sneakers, although I think this is going a bit far in the tacky department.
So now it's your turn-- What shoes did you wear on your wedding day? I want to know!
