The Hairstyle Every Mom Should Get Even if She Thinks It Looks Ridiculous

Why Every Mom Should Get Blunt Bangs

Of all the beauty products and quick fixes I've tried in order to look a little more put-together in the limited time I have each morning, the easiest, cheapest thing I've found isn't a product at all.

It's actually a haircut.

Yes, ladies, I'm talking about bangs. Ever since I got bangs (the thick, blunt kind, in my case), I've never looked back. Think they're a pain? Think they look silly?

Wrong and wrong. Here's why you need them, like, yesterday.

I'm a huge proponent of blunt bangs, but any bangs will do, really, because they add a little something special (and yes, I'll say it, sexy) to your face.

And if you like to wear your hair up all the time, in a ponytail or a bun, it makes that style look so much more pulled together rather than like a complete afterthought or a "Yep, I didn't wash my hair today!"

You can even get away with letting your eyebrows go a little too long between waxes and not wearing much eye makeup at all.

All I do is wash my hair at night, blow out my bangs, and then let the rest of my hair dry, too. Then during the week, I'll use a little dry shampoo to get the oil out and give them new life.

I get mine trimmed every five to six weeks or so, and most places will let you pop in and get it done for free if you go back to where you get your hair cut.

Seriously, you can't get much simpler than that for something that makes you look hot.

But hey, if you're not going to listen to me, listen to Dina Alon, hairdresser and makeup artist for QVC who's been in the industry for 28 years. She spoke with me about my passion for bangs -- and surprise, she shares it.

"Bangs can make you look more youthful and hide a multitude of sins, and they are cheaper then Botox!" Alon said.

Still not sure? Here are some of Dina's tips if you're considering taking the plunge:

1. First, check out LUXHAIR.com and buy clip-in bangs to see how you'd look in them. They come in a variety of colors, and they are easy to put in and take out of your hair.

2. If you're still not sure, a side-swept bang is a good start. Then if you like that look and feel comfortable with it, you can do a shorter, more blunt bang.

3. Styling is easy. You can't go wrong with a round brush and a blow dryer, which will keep them full with great movement. A straightening iron can help wavy hair, but be careful not to go too straight.

Who can't do bangs? According to Alon, women with super curly hair and very small foreheads might not be prime candidates, but talk to your stylist if you're looking for some options.

Bottom line: "Bangs are a big step, but if you are committed, you will not be able to live without them," she said. "And hair grows; if you don’t like them, grow them out."

What do you think of bangs? Are you daring enough to get really blunt ones?
