I never count Talbots out entirely. Its clothing and accessories are classic and extremely well-made, and occasionally I can find a great piece on a deep discount item.
But overall, I've found the line to be a bit ... matronly.
That's why I'm excited that Talbots is making a tremendous effort now to overhaul its frumpy image, starting by hiring Julianne Moore as the new face of Talbots.
My opinion? Wise choice.
What do you think?
Check out more advance photos and video of Moore and the Talbots spring campaign after the jump and tell me in the comments what you think of the line!

First off, there's no denying that Moore looks fantastic in these photos -- I think she's an excellent choice for the image overhaul. Not only does she fit squarely in the line's demographic, she still manages to exude freshness and true beauty.
I'm not thrilled with the blouse and pants in the photo above, but I'm loving the potential of the dress in the top pic. It looks like this Bardot dress ...
This dress is available now for $159 -- steep, but I do like it ...
What I'm loving, though, is this Champs Elysee skirt (Talbots, $89) ... I'm hoping we'll see lots of skirts like this one this spring. If so, I've definitely found my spring/summer uniform!
Talbots also has released a behind-the-scenes video of the Julianne Moore spring shoot, explaining the new Talbots vision ...
Having seen some of what's already available at Talbots.com, I have high hopes for this image overhaul.
What about you?

I am a bit older than you (41) and I must say that the latest Talbots catalog I got totally surprised me! The clothes were adorable! Platform shoes in bright colors, cute dresses and skirts, skinny jeans. Did you see the Ostrich platform sandals... LLLOOOOVVVEEE! I really love it. My MIL used to be a big Talbots fan and she really can't find anything that she likes anymore. (She's 72 and very stylish) The only problem I have with Talbots is that I just cannot afford it, even with sales, it's really pricey in my opinion. I will continue to use the catalog for style inspiration though and watch the clearance carefully too!
Julianne Moore seems fine as the "face" of the brand although I am just as happy when unknown models are used. Frankly, I don't really even look at the person wearing the clothes, just the clothes if that makes any sense.
Oh yes, that skirt will be mine. Thanks for the heads up!
Talbots still has a long way to go to get rid of the "frumpy" AND to be more affordable!
There was a Talbot's outlet near my house (a true outlet, GREAT prices) but it just closed! Thanks to that outlet, I have a bunch of dresses and great jackets! Julianne Moore looks great. I can't wait to check out the new stuff.
They might try to change, but their price isn't. I can find similar items at other places with a lower price tags.
Julianne Moore looks amazing. But the clothes are still not for me. I do want the bag and the shoes and the necklaces though!
Julianne Moore looks so so stunning in that first pic. I can't get over it! And the dress is to die for, too.
FYI, keep a close eye on Talbots Outlet site (You can find the link on the Talbots.com web page). I've found linen tunic tops and scarves for $6-$15 there more than once!
Other than that, Talbots is a bit of a splurge place for me. I've found special occasion dresses there a few times. And I REALLY do covet that skirt!
