I got an e-mail yesterday about SexCies, lingerie designed especially for women who've had c-sections or abdominal surgery.
The SexCies "CorCelette," which will be available for sale January 31, is essentially shapewear disguised as lingerie. Its "Fold Flattener" targets the fold of skin that hangs over most women's c-section scars.
And while it seems like a great idea on its surface, there's one major aspect of this lingerie that's really bothering me.
SexCies lingerie "is especially designed to be worn during intimate times."
Because ...

And I get this sentiment. I really do. I like the idea of shapewear designed as lingerie and I'm a big fan of the babydoll cut now that I've had children.
But shapewear that's made to stay on during sex? That bothers me. According to the website, "A removable panty portion allows for access during intimate times ... no need to undress in front of your partner, the SexCies Corset/Waist-Changer stays on the entire time!"
There's nothing wrong with keeping your clothes on during the deed every now and then, but I don't like the idea of a company appealing to women who feel so ugly after having surgery (or babies) that they don't want to undress at all during sex. I know many women feel this way at least sometimes, but it's an issue we need to work through, not give into!
Besides, I'm betting 99% of the husbands out there aren't thinking of your c-section scar or your belly flab at all when the two of you are getting busy, and if he is, well, he's the one with issues. Most husbands in their 30s and beyond have a little flab themselves, and you don't see them wearing shapewear to bed!
Why should we?
What do you think of the SexCies concept?

this would not only be useful for women with c-sections, but any postpartum mom in general. After naturally having my 8 pound baby boy (I was ALL belly, too!), it took some time for my tummy to get back to its normal self. I wore a back brace/corset till my middle firmed up again, not for my son's father, but for myself! And some women do wear sexy lingerie while intimate just for the fun of it ;)
Hi, Suzy Mac here again (the creator of SexCies). If you haven't already, please read my other post responding to the article and comments.
I wanted to address some concerns about the comfort level of SexCies (I have had many emails regarding this). I made this garment with comfort being just as important as how it looks, if not more so. This took me over a year to develop, and we went through about 18 protoypes to get it "just right".
SexCies is made with soft, stretch satin, and is adjustable on the sides (I did this so women wouldn't have to buy a new SexCies every month in the post-partum period while losing weight). I have three different types of lace for the sides; satin, grosgrain, or flat lace, all very comfortable and tested extensively.
There is an extra "hidden" grommet towards the groin area to lace if you need more support to minimize your pain (like when you laugh or cough after a c-section and hold a pillow on your tummy so it doesn't hurt, this is why I did this, to make you feel more secure and help with your pain from surgery).
Last but not least, I covered the entire insides with luxury faux fur, so the tender skin that has sensitive scar tissue would feel so much better than the regular fabrics that chafe and irritate your scar. It took me 6 months to find the perfect fur, and tested over 30 different fabrics before I came upon the one I am using for SexCies.
Comfort was/is my greatest priority. :)
I totally believe that if this product makes a woman feel better about herself, can it really be all that bad??? Be honest, how many of you own a wonderbra??? how many of you have kept that wonderbra on while with your partner??? Is this any different from any of the other shape wear out there? I have seen butt lifters, thigh pants, and numerous things. Lets be honest here.... women have lousy self esteem for the most part. This product is available for those that feel like they need a little boost. Until the day comes that every single woman in the world is in perfect harmony with herself, we won't need to dress ourselves up to feel better.
I had 2 c-sections and have yet to lose the baby weight, and somedays I would love something like this to make me feel just a little bit sexier...... is it any different than a merry widow contraption??? Seriously, I don't think its for every day use, just for those those times to spice up your love life.
It's true, men see us women as beautiful regardless of how we see ourselves. My husband tells me daily how beautiful I am, but some days its hard to feel that way. I know I will be purchasing one of these.
