When it comes to warm winter attire, we tend to spend a lot of time thinking about outerwear like coats, hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves. But good winter underwear are just as critical for wintertime warmth as the stuff you wear on the outside. It's true!
Consider warm underwear a good investment too. Don't go for the cheapest stuff you can find. Go for quality and smart design. After all, you can wear it winter after winter for years to come, and frankly, not freezing your tailgate off is totally worth the dough.
Here are our picks for some of the best wintertime undergarments.
Silk long underwear! Yes, silk! The thinnest warmth you can find. Perfect for a range of winter weather and look great under your skinny jeans! WinterSilks range from lightweight to heavyweight and come in a range of sizes and cuts, including low-rise. Go silk this winter ... we swear!
From silkweight to expedition weight, this baselayer collection is designed to keep the cold and moisture out and the warmth in. Plus, it's stretchy, durable, and soft. This line goes above the underwear level, too, and offers the next layers in great styles and colors too.
In the winter, it's got to be all about warm feet. Warm feet make you feel warmer all over, and wool will make your feet feel warm. I got my first pair of SmartWool socks this Christmas, and I am in love. Seriously in love. Yes, with socks. These wool numbers are like walking on soft, cozy foot clouds. They sell several levels of foot cushion; mine are unbelievably cozy and only ranked as Light Cushion. Most of these socks will run you between $15-$22/pair -- worth ... every ... penny ...
What are your favorite winter underwear?

I second the SmartWool love. I was worried when I bought them - I expected them to be itchy like my other wool socks, so I bought a pair of sock liners to go with. Those sock liners went into the goodwill bin about an hour after I got those SmartWool socks on! They're amazing! So soft, and not a single itch.
My very favorite socks are the four pairs of alpaca socks that I have....They are sooooooo soft and the only thing that will keep my feet warm... Absolutely no itching!!!!!! Some of them are imported from Peru, but in Central Texas they can be made from the wool sheared from the alpacas at an alpaca farm about 30 miles from here....Ponchos, neck scarves and gloves can be made also from alpaca....I am blessed already to have other cozy items of llama and alpaca I picked up from Bolivia, first in 1970 (when I was an exchange student) , and afterwards in 1988 when I made a return trip....Calientita (warm) :)
Cool! Sounds super comfy.
All of this stuff on kiddos would be safe under clothes to help keep them warm without a bulky coat in a car seat too. ;)
I love the winter silks, they rock! We camp every year in February (in tents, in Ohio) and these truly are the best!
Wool socks! I wear my cuddl dudds under neath my snow pants!
Those socks sound super cool - and warm too. ;)
Wool socks.
Oh gosh these sound great! I've always been a fan of the 'long johns' my self!
Layer, layer, layer. When I don't have any long johns available, I layer with tights or a few pairs of socks.
very nice. thanks!
