Frigid temperatures require extra layering this time of year, and American Apparel has some great leggings, perfect for the chill. But you know what else they have when you visit their site? Nudity. Yup. Lots of it.
Visit their website, and within three minutes of photo slideshows, consumers will see clothing items that showcase parts of the female body. You want nipples? You got 'em.
Think what you want about their questionable advertising strategy, but this is what I know -- it works. I love clicking through the site. I love the feel of it. So what if there's a bit of nudity? I'll be the first to admit, I'm a fan.
They say it best themselves on their site:
Our provocative, real, unpretentious aesthetic has struck a chord with today's young trendsetters, and has drawn us an intensely loyal following, similar to that of Levi's in the 60's and 70's when they were breaking similar ground with an underserved generation.

American Apparel takes a different approach to selling their clothes, and personally I think it's great. The photos are eye-catching. The company celebrates the female body and has no problem showcasing some of their "models" best assets.
No, I wouldn't suggest logging onto their site when you're trying to kill some time at the office -- but the way the company sells their clothing an accessories is artsy, and I'm beginning to develop and appreciation for their aesthetic.
And don't worry: American Apparel nudity isn't just one-stop shopping. The clothing company based out of downtown LA runs these provocative ads in print, on other websites, and on billboards.
Kudos to you, AA, for finding a niche. Props for showcasing real women and their real curves. And of course, for manufacturing my favorite leggings.
