A Fashion Pronunciation Guide

HermesShould you ever find yourself in the position of buying a bag at Hermes, darlings, the last thing you want to do is enter the store and say:

"Oooooooh, I just LOVE me some HER-Meeeez!!!!"

Because it's pronounced "Err-MEZ."

It doesn't matter whether you can afford to buy designs from Proenza Schouler or Lanvin -- you can at least learn to pronounce them.

After all, you never know when you'll find yourself front row at a Fashion Week runway show ...

Or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Read on to find out the correct way to pronounce some of the biggest designer and brand names in the fashion industry. And if I missed one you've been wondering about, let me know in the comments and I'll add it to the list!

Proenza Schouler: Pro-IN-za SCHOOL-er

Bebe: BEE-BEE (I said "Bay-bay" for years. OOPS.)

Ralph Lauren: Ralph LOHR-ren (NOT "Ralph Lo-REN")

Sadly, I needed some of those pronunciation keys. LOL What's really laughable is how I learned the correct pronunciation of Versace (vur-SAH-chee for those not in the know) from the movie Showgirls.

Hahaha. I love it. I get at least 5 hits a day on my blog for people searching how to pronounce Henri Bendel because I wrote about it.  For anybody interested, it's Henry (just like the boy's name) BEN dull.

I was surprised that I had been pronouncing one of my favorite stores' name wrong when I had to talk to a customer service rep.  He answered the phone Air-OH-pos-TALL.  We had been pronouncing it Air-apostle for years.
