It's so nice to know I'm not alone in gagging each time I walk past an Abercrombie & Fitch store at the mall.
A protest is scheduled outside the brand's flagship store in New York City tomorrow, led by environmental groups that are opposed to A&F's policy of automatically spraying its Fierce cologne out of store track lights.
One of the protest groups, Teens Turning Green (pictured above), protested at the retail chain's San Francisco location last month. The group claims the spray is harmful. Here's why ...
According to a petition issued by Teens Turning Green, a study conducted by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found the following about A&F's Fierce Cologne spray:
- Eleven chemicals not listed on the label due to a loophole in federal law that allows companies to claim fragrance ingredients as trade secrets.
- Eight sensitizing chemicals associated with allergic reactions such as asthma, wheezing, headaches, and contact dermatitis.
- Diethyl phthalate -- a chemical linked in recent human studies to sperm damage in adult men, abnormal reproductive development in baby boys, and behavioral problems in children.
A&F has issued a statement about the safety of its Fierce spray on its Facebook page.
Whether the spray is safe or not, I think most of you agree it's obnoxious. It really does keep me from going into the store 99% of the time.
Next, I hope noise pollution groups will start protesting the ridiculously loud music they play at Abercrombie & Fitch.
Get rid of the spray turn down the music, and I just might consider shopping there again.
What do you think of the Abercrombie & Fitch shopping experience?

I've never been in the store, but since I get migraines from strong smells, like perfume, I'd stay far away from it. Stores really shouldn't be spraying perfumes and colognes all over the place when there are people that are sensitive to them.
My husband and I both say the same thing each time we walk by that store. Not only is the music too dang loud in there but the smell is sickening. I don't know how those people can stand to work in that store.
woah. WOAH.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!!!!!!!!! This is great!
Oh. And I will never shop there.
Never.
I've never gone in a store. They look ridiculous from the outside. I had no idea they did this either, but I'd be pissed off and probably try to clog the sprays with gum.
I have to hold my breath everytime I pass A&F, their strong perfume smell gives me a headache. What's worst, they do the same for kids A&F.
i hate walking by their store it stinks.
I avoid Mall Snipers (the perfume people) like the plague... there's no WAY I'd be caught dead in an A&F store if that's what they're doing. Someitmes it's nice to be living in the middle of the Heartland where we don't have malls anywhere close by.
I always feel really old when I go into an A&F (and I haven't in a few years) because all I can think is TURN THAT *$@! MUSIC DOWN. And then I feel like I need a cane to wave about! LOL
I've never shopped there but I have a real problem with perfume so I will avoid it all cost thn
