Remember the days when "plus-size" model Crystal Renn was wowing us all on the catwalks with her bodacious size 14 figure?
Well it looks like those days are long gone, folks.
Crystal Renn turned up at the Spring 2011 fashion shows even smaller than the last time we saw her. Check her out in these photos at Zac Posen and Chanel, respectively. She is now down to a size 8-10.
And I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Plus-size history aside (and for the record, before you start commenting, "plus-size" in the modeling industry means plus the standard sample size, which is size two), I have to say Crystal looks FABULOUS.
Crystal Renn at a size eight is exactly how I would like to look if I could order my body online -- toned and flab-free, yet healthy. Don't you just love seeing actual curves in her legs, as opposed to the usual bird legs we normally see on the runway?
But I can't help but notice that the more in demand Crystal has gotten as a model, the smaller she's gotten -- and with an eating disorder in her history, her shrinking size has me concerned.
Beyond that, I know she's disappointing many of the fans who've helped bolster her fame. Plenty of Vogue-reading larger women had made Crystal their poster girl. After all, she was living proof that even women who don't weigh 90 pounds (or 130 for that matter) could be devastatingly stylish.
Renn says her weight loss has come about naturally. "I’m taking care," she's been quoted as saying. "I’m just in a really good place. I do hiking. I do yoga, but nothing crazy, just in my house. It brings me peace."
So what do you think of the incredible shrinking Crystal Renn? Hotter than ever? Or caving in to the pressures of the fashion industry?
