Kitten heels are another one of those trends that are really growing on me, particularly since they come in handy for those of us who hate flats, but are coming to the realization that stilettos and motherhood don't always go together very well. *blushing*
When worn right, kitten heels give you all the appeal of Audrey Hepburn.
Check out our friend Christa, for example, pictured here at Mission Rose Garden in Santa Barbara. Her kitten heels keep her from looking too dressed up in her pretty Banana Republic dress.
When worn wrong, though, kitten heels can make you look like Frumpy McFrumperson.
Click through to see which celebs did their kitten heels justice -- and which should have left their kits in the closet.
Michelle Obama looks drab rather than fab when pairing kitten heels with a simple dress. And Katie Holmes made a "meh" dress even more matronly with a pair of navy blue kitten heels.
Who's gotten it right? Nicole Kidman glammed up a black pair at the 2010 People's Choice Awards. Reese Witherspoon dressed up jeans and a blazer with kitten heels, and did the same thing with black pants and a t-shirt earlier in the year.
A few words of warning when you're on the hunt for the perfect kitten heel.
- Go for the highest kitten heel you can comfortably stand. The higher the heel, the prettier your leg will look.
- If you want to wear your kitten heels with a dress, look at your posture in the mirror in a dress before buying the kitten heels in question. The wrong kitten heel makes your butt stick out and your shoulders slump forward -- and that's not at all what you want.
- In general, kitten heels are going to look better with pants. Proceed with caution if you want to wear them with a skirt or dress, and perhaps get a second opinion on how you look in them.
Now let's find some kitten heels we can afford!
Leopard print always keeps things exciting! Check out these haircalf kitten-heel pumps (Talbots, $139). C'est chic, no?
The stiletto heel on these Fitzwell Lyra Booties (Zappos, $99) makes them seem a lot higher than they really are. What a great compromise between comfort and high style!
These natty Diamonte kitten heels (Anne Klein, $79) would be a great finishing touch to a tailored menswear look.
This French Connection Dartiania pump (ASOS, $43.81 on sale) may be the hottest kitten heel I've seen yet!
What do you think of the kitten heel? Mah-velous? Or meh?
