Top 5 Makeup Looks for Fall

Michele Zipp

Finally we can stop sweating in the humidity of summer and start putting our best face forward. Now only if we had time to put makeup on! I love the new looks for autumn, and it turns out that they aren't too hard to apply when you've only got 30 seconds to do it.

Strong lip

There are two kinds of women: those those who wear lipstick and those who don't. I love it, but not just any kind, and I can't stand leaving traces of lipstick everywhere.  Revlon ColorStay Soft and Smooth Lipcolor ($9.99 from Walgreens) goes the distance (and won't come off on my husband after a light smooch). The shade Divine Port Wine makes a great statement and goes on lighter than it seems. Layer for a more dramatic effect and wear with a non-blushed face and light mascara for day. You can vamp it up more for night.

Pop shadow

Ladies from the 80s are cringing that the neon look is coming back. I know I am. But I'm only saying to try these neon-like colors on your eyes. M·A·C's Paint Pot ($16.50 from M·A·C) goes on like a smooth cream, but then offers a stay-put shade once dry. Try Greenstroke (frosted mint green with gold pearl), Delft (deep teal with gold pearl), or Artifact (dark burgundy with red pearl). Just a little color goes a long way.

Dark polish

Deep shades of nail polish isn't just for goths and Halloween time, but keep your talons on the shorter side. Soften up black with the deepest shades of red and brown for a velvety look. Priti makes non-toxic polish that's formaldehyde free! Magic Man Isis ($12.50 from Beauty Habit) is the perfect shade for fall and you can even paint your daughter's nails and not worry about the chemicals.

Lined eye

Do not fear the liquid liner, but don't go overboard like Amy Winehouse. Jemma Kidd's line for Target is a great choice. JK Jemma Kidd I-Tech Liquid Eyeliner ($18 from Target) in black is a great basic, but take it up a notch with bronze, or bright blue and green. Keep wand closest to upper lid lashes and create a thin line for a touch of flirt. OK, I needed more than 30 seconds for this one, but it was worth it!

Smokey lids

Have you tried, without success, to get the smokey eye look? Yeah, it's not that easy, but with Stila's Backstage Beauty Eye Shadow Palette, The Front Row Look ($40 from Sephora, pictured) it can be done in a hurry. Start from left and shadow the entire lid. Smudge the liner most near the upper lash line, then highlight closest to the brow with the middle color. The darkest shade will cover the lid with more concentration at the bottom. Lightly line under eye with darkest shadow and wand. Smudge away for a more intense effect.
