Plaid is back in fashion for fall, but too many Hollywood fashionistas have interpreted the trend as grunge-era button-down shirts worn with jeans. Hello, high school.
That's why I was thrilled to see Anthropologie take the trend and give it a grown-up twist in its September catalog.
Now this is the kind of look I could warm up to!
This Easy Keeper skirt (Anthropologie, $138) is a standout piece that could easily provide all the plaid you need for fall.
And there are plenty more beautiful, adult plaid options out there that will fit just about any budget.
Check them out, and see more ideas on how to wear the look from Anthropologie, after the jump.
I love how smart this Steadfast & Whimsy skirt (Anthropologie, $138) looks with a leather jacket and lace-up boots. You could totally pull this off at your kid's next field trip. Oh yes you could!
Mixing prints is such a hot trend right now, and while I could never put these two pieces together and make it work, this model totally rocks it. I would absolutely wear this Garment District Blazer (Anthropologie, $138) on its own, though.
Score points with the horsey set in this Made to Measure skirt (Anthropologie, $138). It is awesome.
A great way to work plaid into your wardrobe without spending a ton of money is with a classic scarf, like this DKNYC Scarf (Macy's, $39.99 on sale).
I'm head over heels for this Ralph Lauren Minnie silk plaid skirt (Dillards, $99.50). This skirt will never go out of style.
You belong in Scotland with this Puckered Plaid Trench (Anthropologie, $188). So, so pretty ...
The best thing about these plaid pieces is that they will never go out of style! So don't be afraid to invest in a classic plaid separate or two this season.
Are you mad for plaid?

I'm dying for the whimsy skirt from anthro!! Oh and the last jacket.... omgooodness, I am iiiinlooove! :)
meh. I do like some plaid, but am not totally crazy for it. I did buy a simple plaid top yesterday that is really cute.
nah no point buying it, it will just look silly the next season.
I am lusting after that Ralph Lauren skirt. I love your blogs Lindsay. I finally remembered the Candy Cane connection. If LL Bean duck boots come back, it really will be 1993 all over again.
Oh, duck boots! Yeah, those and Z. Cavaracci jeans and I'd be right back to my freshman year of college.
I LOVE that last coat and the RL skirt. Will have to see what plaid items I still have hanging around.
I like them all except for the Anthro made to measure skirt. It's hiked up funny so it looks like it's tucked in her underwear. If I wore it, I'd be constantly pulling at it.
I have several vintage Pendleton wool skirts in plaid. I'll be in style this winter.
I like the DKNYC.
I have to pass on plaid, it reminds me of my Little House on the Prairie role playing days. LOL
Beautiful is the word to decribe plaid. It just looks classy and even casual, still looks pretty and refined.
