When I made a stop at the mall this past week, I came across a full, 50s-style circle skirt in black satin, complete with a crinoline underneath. I tried it on and the style was magnificent- so pretty and so Mad Men-esque that I seriously toyed with the idea of buying it, even though I had nowhere to wear it and the satin itself was rather cheap looking.
I'm telling you this only to say that I am now completely obsessed with finding a few good skirts, a la Lous Vuitton's fall 2010 vision, which has so many in the fashion industry swooning right now.
Scoring one of these skirts now will totally put you ahead of the game for fall.
Plus? They're incredibly forgiving for those of us who aren't at the gym two hours a day-- and since they recall the 50s, wearing one will always look stylishly retro, no matter what the season.
Read on for some fabulously affordable circle skirt picks.

You may not be able to afford a Louis Vuitton skirt, but this Long Center Seam Skirt (Jones New York, $129) might fit your budget. Pair it with a pretty, short-sleeved black sweater or a a blouse with a floppy bow tie and a jacket and you'll look totally luxe.
This feathered perch skirt (Anthropologie, $148) is sheer perfection. Yes, it's expensive, but I think it easily qualifies as an investment piece.

I love the librarian-chic going on with Louis Vuitton's plaid full skirts- and once again, Jones New York has that look covered with this smart plaid gore skirt (Jones New York, $79). Love it.
Going for the look on a budget? You can't do better than this Pink Label Control Full Skirt (Spiegel, $49) which has a gorgeous design and built-in shapewear.
I'm also loving this Sparkle & Fade Full Voile Skirt (Urban Outfitters, $29 on sale!), which comes in several different colors and is a GREAT buy right now!
Keep it classy in this soft gored skirt (Jones New York, $89).

And I also couldn't leave out this pretty Peppered & Striped skirt (Anthropologie, $128).
Finally, I can't think of a better way to welcome in spring next year than with this stunning Floral Pleated Skirt (Jones New York, $57.74 on sale).
Ladies, what do you think of these full skirts? Will you rock one this fall?

I'll take one of each! (I wish) I love this trend--it's so lady-like and vintage-y.
I'm so ready for this. These are the kind of clothes that I've been wearing for years. I have skirts in my collection that look very similar to every one shown. Now I'll be in style.
And you're right. You don't have to be a slave to exercise to look good in these clothes.
yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!
I think you could totally do it, Rachel, provided you choose a circle skirt with a defined waistband, like the Spiegel version. The one I tried on had a wide waistband and I think that's a big part of what made it so amazing. The skirt was so voluminous that my waist (FOR A CHANGE) looked tiny! I've got an apple build, so my waist is usually what I'm trying to hide!
They are PERFECT for work!
very cute. there are a lot of variations shown the full circle skirt is not ideal for every body type but a shorted A-Line would look good on a variety of figures. thanks for sharing.
Ab.So.Lutely love this look in a skirt.
