I can hear the grumbling all the way over here in Nashville.
"I don't need booties! Are you kidding? Booties?! I've got enough shoes as it is!"
Believe me when I tell you that while this season's fall/winter styles are fairly classic and include lots of items you probably already have in your closet (YAY!), a good pair of booties (or two or four) will single-handedly make you look 100% current for fall 2010.
The best part? Booties look great with pants, dresses, and skirts.
Read on to see photos of how to wear your new booties, as well as some budget-friendly versions to call your own.
You can wear your booties with pants or leggings, as in this photo from Nordstrom's August catalog ...
Or, as pictured here in Anthropologie's August catalog, you can pair your booties with a dress or skirt. Wear them either bare-legged or with tights or thin anklet socks.
I'm kind of loving these $198 Anthropologie booties, actually (not to mention their surreal setting). They look like the kind of shoes I'd wear if I were married to Bilbo Baggins.
In fact, Anthropologie has lots of exquisite versions. But they're all rather expensive. What's a girl to do?
READ SHE'S STILL GOT IT, of course! I've done the work for you and found the cutest, most budget-friendly booties on the market!
First off, get thee to Charlotte Russe, while all shoes are still $25! This Cuffed and Knotted Bootie (Charlotte Russe, $25) is a perfect way to work the bootie trend into your wardrobe, even with limited means. This shoe also comes in black.
I'm also crazy for these sexy Bandage Strappy Heels (Charlotte Russe, $25 on sale). On sale, they're more than half off, so if you like them, get them now!
I'm totally feeling this Black Kamiah Peep-Toe Bootie (Target, $29.99), which comes in several different colors. Thank you, Target!
Or you could opt to add some interest to your look with this N.Y.L.A. Perrie Bootie (Endless, $57.72).

I'm a huge fan of Fergie's line of shoes, and this Ruckus Bootie (Nordstrom, $99.95) is no exception. It also comes in black.
Need a lower heel (or a lower price)? How about these Crinkled Ankle Boots (Forever 21, $27.80)?
Finally, I can't leave out this super-stylish Steve Madden Chelseey Bootie (Nordstrom, $98.95). LOVE.
What do you think of the bootie? Is it a must-have for your wardrobe?

One of my favorite looks 20 years ago was a long sweater (color-blocked, natch), stirrup pants, and short scrunched boots. I love the bootie look; I'm just not sure if it suits me at 50 as it did at 30.
There are so many options out there for you, Marsha. I think you could rock them!
I actually just bought myself a pair last night, am wearing them as we speak, and I'm loving them! I can't wait to get a few more fall options as the season gets closer!
I hated booties originally, but now there are so many styles that I think there's something out there for just about anyone.
I don't have Charlotte Russe heels, but I do have a few pairs of their ballerina flats (remember the $10 flats sale, anyone?) and I was SHOCKED at how comfortable they are. There's extra padding in them and everything- I was not expecting that kind of quality for $10. And they actually look even better in person than they did in the picture!
Also, if you're a half-size, go a size up in Charlotte Russe- NOT a size down.
I love the Steve Madden pair, but unfortunately for me (a clutz in bare feet....), I'd end up wearing them in the ambulance on the way to the ER, after I fell down the stairs....
NOT a fan.
