Style icon Katie Holmes proved last week in New York City that double denim is still hot.
Frankly, to me, it feels a little odd, particularly since we've been mocking my father-in-law for wearing double denim as long as I've known him. It kills me to think that he's now having the last laugh.
But if Katie is doing it, WE SHOULD ALL DO IT.
Kidding, of course. However, if you do want to rock the double denim look, there are a few very important things you need to remember to make this style work ...
1. Wear different weight denims. See how Katie wore a lightweight chambray shirt with heavier weight jeans? Yeah. That.
2. Do NOT match the colors of your double denim. Wear a darker shade with a lighter one, lest you appear to be wearing a Canadian Tuxedo like our dancing friend, above. Lighter blue and darker blue is fine, or you could throw in some white denim for summer or black denim for a little edge.
3. Break that denim up. Wear a camisole under your button-down denim shirt and a brown leather belt to help transition your blues.
