Angelina Jolie Is Aging -- And It Shows

Vanity Fair I have always thought Angelina Jolie was one of the most beautiful women in the world.

Lately, though, I couldn't help but notice that the celebrity vixen was looking a little ... well ... old.

And when I saw a shot of Vanity Fair's August cover, I understood why.

1. She's too thin, which generally is aging on anyone over 30.

2. Her hairdo belongs on someone wearing a Laura Ashley dress.

3. Too. Much. Makeup.

Oh, I realize that even with these factors, she's still far better looking than the average woman. But I take an interest in The Aging of Angelina, because she's only a few days older than me. If one of the sexiest women on earth is looking older, I may not have a chance in hell.

And Angie's not the only beautiful celeb who's suddenly aging very badly ... Wanna know who's aged ten years in the last three? Read on ....

nicole kidmanEach time I've seen photos of Nicole Kidman recently, I've thought about how much she's changed just in the last few years, for many of the same reasons as Angelina. Her hair looks dry and bouffant-y. Her skin looks like its seen a few too many chemical peels and Botox injections. I happen to love Nicole, and I'll watch any movie in which she has a starring role. But again, when someone so beautiful starts looking old overnight, it scares me a little because if someone who has every aging technique at her disposal is looking long in the tooth ...

How on earth am I supposed to stop the ravages of time?

The good news is that plenty of celebrities 40 and up are looking fabulous, and they all seem to have a couple of things in common. Witness:

halle berryHalle Berry is always radiant, even after several bad break-ups and in the midst of mothering a small child.

sandra bullockSandra Bullock is pretty much ageless. In fact, I think the older she gets, the prettier she looks.

And then there's Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox, Friends who are aging about as well as anyone.

What do these women have in common? A few things.

All of them stay in shape without getting to the stage of emaciation. Exercise seems to be a key component to maintaining a youthful appearance. Beyond that, all of these women have shiny, healthy-looking hair, which they style very, very simply. And all of them keep their makeup on the natural side.

I think that the older we get, the more we try to "camouflage" our age with more makeup and more heavily-styled hair -- so taking a look at celebrities who are aging well -- and those who aren't -- is a great reminder of the steps we can take to stay "forever young."

Which celebrities do you think are aging gracefully -- and which aren't?

I wish I were aging as poorly as Angelina.

It's funny you mentioned Helen Mirren- I was thinking the other day that I hope I look as good as she does when I'm her age. In her case, I think she pays a lot of attention to her hair and to dressing youthfully. She wore an outfit on a TV appearance that I would LOVE to have myself. I don't say that when I see many 60-something women!

And obviously, Angelina is still show-stoppingly gorgeous. But I've noticed a change in her in the last year in every single picture. I also wonder if she's just plain tired with so many children to care for. Catherine Zeta Jones is starting to have some issues, too. When I notice these things, I only worry about what that means to ME, me without the expensive beauty creams and hair stylists and skin doctors! I'm selfish that way!  :D

I do feel every so slightly better about myself when the stars tumble unexpectedly of their pedestals.  Jennifer Anniston continues to amaze me with her body, skin, hair and smile.  She's only 2 years younger than me, and so I am ever hopeful!

It seems to me that over doing cosmetic surgery in an attempt to maintain youthful looks is the most aging thing I've noticed that celebrities do. It's sad to me that in fighting it so hard they just seem to make it worse. I think the celebrities that age naturally are the ones who maintain a youthful appearance,

Lindsay, If you are having this worry now, wait til you get to be 56.  It's not easy looking in the mirror especially when you don't feel 56.

When I was little, I was SURE that by the time I got this old, they'd have a cure!  STILL WAITING.  ;D

I've noticed the same thing about Angelina.  I'm 41 and I realized in my mid 30s that when I'm thin enough to be happy with my body, my face looks way too old.  I'm one of those women who have to keep a few extra pounds in the behind to keep my face looking youthful.  I also keep my hair in a simple shoulder-length style and in a natural color (extremely blond or dark are aging in my opinion). Thankfully I don't have much gray so I can get by with just a glaze to make my hair shiny.

One of my Facebook friends brought up Meg Ryan when it comes to stars aging badly. How could I forget Meg Ryan?! WOW NOT GOOD.

But Meg Ryan makes me think of Michelle Pfeiffer, who's now in her 50s and aging BEAUTIFULLY.

Brooke Shields, Diane Lane & Juliana Margulies. Three woman who just seem to get better with age.

And I personally disagree with Jen Aniston & Courtney Cox. They ARE in fact way too thin and I don't think either of them are aging especially gracefully.
