A story is sweeping the Internet right now about brides-to-be whose dresses are so complicated and ornate, they need to wear bridal diapers underneath them in case they need to go to the bathroom at any time during their big day.
As far as I can tell, it originates with Marie Claire blogger Courtney Dunlop, who claims she found bridal shops online selling diapers for the bride.
Other websites have picked up on the story and now everyone's talking about bridal diapers and who's wearing them.
But is this really a new trend among brides? Or is it just a bunch of hot (and possibly flatulent) air?
I investigated and here's what I found.
While I found one supposedly true story about a bride who ended up needing Depends for her wedding day and a message board question about a woman claiming her bridal store manager told her she sells bridal diapers all the time, I couldn't actually find any online store selling bridal diapers. And ladies, I did some serious online searching.
I believe this is one of those stories that's destined to become an online Urban Legend.
I don't doubt that there are women who've chosen to wear Depends on their big day for one reason or another. But do I believe that this is a widespread trend?
No.
Most women simply have a bridesmaid or their mom help them with their dress if they need to go to the restroom on their wedding day and are having trouble. It seems to me that that wouldn't be a very big deal.
But I'd love to know if you've heard of bridal diapers ... or if you've worn them yourself!
Give me the poop! *snicker*

Never heard of them ... until now!
And now you can't get them out of your head, can you? ;)
I just didn't go to the bathroom after I put on my dress. I also refused to drink very much of the bottled water everyone was trying to give me. It was August in Nashville and one of the hottest days ever. I was very thirsty when I got to my reception, but it was worth not trying to go to the bathroom with 11 layers in my skirt.
Wow how romantic for the wedding night lol
Yes, I can only imagine. "Excuse me while I take off my diaper!" SEXY.
One of my biggest prerequisites for my bridal gown was that I could go to the bathroom by myself with it on. Because if you can't? It's just tooooo complicated. (I'm also big into comfortable fashion. And you know what? It was still super-elegant. Plus I wore flip flops to the (outdoor) ceremony and white ballet flats to the reception.) It's supposed to be the happiest day of my life, so why should I be uncomfortable?
And what grown-up feels comfortable enough to pee their pants? In front of all of their wedding guests??? I'm thinking urban legend.
I don't know, I think if the bride gets drunk enough... :D
i think that blogger is flat-out lying, and that annoys the living hell out of me.
Well, madfoot, I would LOVE to see the websites she was referring to, because I couldn't find anything like what she wrote about-- and that's highly unusual. I wondered why she didn't actually link to anything she mentioned.
