If you follow fashion, you've probably read about the ikat print -- and if you're like me, you've probably wondered what the heck ikat is, and how the heck to pronounce it.
Well, according to Wikipedia, ikat is a "method of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft fibres." It's also "one of the oldest forms of textile decoration."
As for the pronunciation of the word 'ikat,' it's "EE-coht."
It's also an inexpensive look to score for yourself. Check out my favorite affordable ikat print clothing after the jump ...
Anne Klein, $148I'll be honest, when I began looking for ikat print clothing to show you all, I hated more of what I found than I loved. This ikat Sheath Dress (Anne Klein, $148), though, is divine. It's pricey, but perhaps you can justify it for a wedding or cocktail party. It also comes in ecru.
Kirna Zabete, $1,452If you have a few grand lying around, you can purchase this Thakoon Ikat Plisse Day Dress (Kirna Zabete, $1,452), just like the one worn by Mrs. O (but she probably paid the original price of $2,075).
Dillards, $128Or you could opt for this simpler, but equally stylish T Tahari "Gardenia" Ikat-print Sheath Dress (Dillards, $128). This dress would look great with a white or black boyfriend blazer ... just sayin'.
WhiteHouseBlackMarket.com, $128I had my eye on this gorgeous Ikat Maxi Skirt (White House Black Market, $128) at the mall last week, but it was a little much for my budget. The skirt has a smocked top and can be worn either as a skirt or strapless dress. I'm just praying this one makes it to the online sale racks!
Neiman Marcus, $68This Ikat-print One-Shoulder Paisley Top (Neiman Marcus, $68) is a fun way to rock the look.
Those are some of my favorite ikat looks. What do you think? Do you have any ikat pieces? Would you buy them?
