We've all seen short shorts on teenagers, but have you noticed that lately they're ...

Shorter?

Boyshorts, once reserved for lingerie departments and Victoria's Secret catalogs, now are barely covering the derrieres of celebrities like Miley Cyrus and, as you will see after the jump, even normal, everyday people.

And I couldn't be more appalled.

It all started with the spring runway shows in New York. Everyone from Marc Jacobs to Donna Karan featured variations of the underwear-as-outerwear look, and at first, fashion insiders predicted the trend would never fly with real women.

If only they'd been right.

Lately, I'm seeing these panty-like shorts popping up everywhere, from fashion magazines to... well... I won't tell you where I took this photo because I don't want to give this woman's identity away, -- let's just say it was at a hotspot here in Nashville. And she's not the only person I've seen wearing them.

She wears short shorts. Unfortunately.

The bad news is that if you haven't seen this look out and about, you're going to. Be prepared to shield your children's eyes.

The good news? Now you can throw a shirt on over your Spanx and you're good to go!

Well..at least thongs are out! Hope I don't see this trend anytime soon. As a mom with a 16 year old daughter I can say that when the girls start wearing shorts again each year I wish they all had a "rear" view. I think they don't have a clue sometimes what's going on "behind".

I don't think that photo even does this woman's short shorts justice. They were knit and clingy, like something you'd see at the gym and disapprove of.. And she was at a very trendy event! I'm pretty sure she was a walking health code violation. I'm still shuddering thinking of it.

I'm with you - I don't need that much information about anyone! There is a commercial playing right now for a firming lotion that features a woman out and about in a bra top and boy shorts - I get that she is meant to be out running, but it looks like she forgot to get dressed. NO matter how firm your skin might be, that's not good, if you ask me!

i don't know why so many people follow ridiculous trends just because celebs say it's cool. jeez. i think they should only be worn at home. even if you have a well toned body it looks extremely tacky.

LIndsey i would like to know what you think about the turquoise blue polish i see in all the magazines( People, Style Watch,page 106 june/july issue). I have been tempted to buy some for a pedicure, but can not decide if 42 is too old for it or not. I thought i would ask you before i spend the money and my girlfreinds get a good laugh at my expense. However we all read your blog and if you say it is ok, well then they won't have anything to say about my 42 year old turquoise toes!!!!

I am a germ freak. But because I love you Lindsee and assume you are a visual thinker, I will not comment on the plethora of germ issues with shorts this short. I will point out that the extremely shot cut and unforgiving fabric makes her look a wee bit "The Real Housewives of Deliverence" and also begs the question... is she holding in a gas bubble?

GNR1967, I just got the new People Stylewatch tonight at the bookstore! I'm going to look at it so that I know exactly what you're talking about.

I am seeing lots of pastel nail polish in greens and blues and I'm undecided. I might have to try it and then let you know what I think. :)
