Photo by Splash NewsFor the last couple of weeks, I've been seeing the cutest black and white striped maxi dresses and wanting to write a post about how much I love them.
And look who just turned up in one! That's Katie Holmes, out and about last Wednesday night with her husband, whose name I forget.
I only wish I'd written the post before Katie wore the dress. Then I would have sworn she reads The Stir.
Oh well ...
Here's how you can get Katie's look for much, much less.

Bebe.com, $79The closest match to what Katie's wearing has got to be this far more affordable Bebe Striped Tank Maxi Dress ($79). And on an unrelated note, I love the Bebe Lacey Perforated Tote ($159) pictured, which I spotted at the mall the other day. It's gorgeous in person and I WANT IT.
Ahem.

Topshop.com, $70This Stripe Jersey Maxi by Rare ($70, Topshop) is super cute, particularly from behind, where the neckline dips to mid-back.

Piperlime.com, $246This Rachel Pally Santa Monica Dress (Piperlime, $246) is the one that started the obsession for me. It's way beyond my budget, but a girl can dream, right?

Asos.com, $32.97And even if you can't personally get in on the striped maxi dress action, your daughter can! Check out this Gap Jersey Stripe Maxi Dress (Asos.com, $32.97). SO CUTE.
What do you think of the striped maxi? London's Daily Mail ripped Katie to shreds over this dress, but I think she looked great (although I would have chosen different shoes).

I can't believe that second one would be flattering on anyone who doesn't have the figure of a column. I like the first one though. What's the key for shorties like me - other than, you know, hemming.
Lots of short women think they can't wear a maxi dress, but I think that's a myth. Check out Eva Longoria in a maxi:

She's just a hair over five feet tall and she looks great!
I think the dress looks like prison strips but if you have the body for it and love strips go for but me I don't like dresses that are too long.
Love them, don't think I could pull of stripes though. My fav was the strapless Rachel Palley, but I'm pretty sure I bought my daughter's summer wardrobe for what that dress would cost!
These just remind me of prison or zebras... neither of which are very flattering.
I can't pull off horizontal stripes - I'm way too hippy. But I like the kids' option!
I did have a moment at the beginning of spring when I went to a play and every other woman there was wearing black and white stripes- and yes, it did look like a prison! LOL
I definitely prefer the chevron, v-shaped stripes like Katie are wearing. They're far more slimming than the horizontal ones. But I also love the thin horizontal stripes of the last women's dress.
i think you have to have the body for the dress! myself i don't, horizontal stripes don't work for me =-(
cute
I think it is cute, not sure I would wear one unless I was to drop a few more pounds. I am also on the short side, the link to see Eva Longoria didn't work.
