Yay or Nay: Pedicure in Black

If you haven't heard already, black polish is totally hot right now. I'm seeing it on everyone from Carmen Electra to our girl Jennifer Aniston. It looks hip on celebrities, but I wasn't sure it would go over so well in the car rider pick-up line. And then I saw a photo a few weeks ago of Fergie, I think, with a black polish pedicure and a soft pink manicure.

Eureka.

I went out and got myself some black nail polish and the other day, I put some on my toes. Take a look.

I like to call it Pedicure in Black.

I kind of like it. It makes me feel edgy, without being in-your-face. My husband hates it, though, and so do my kids and all the neighborhood children (I took a quiz. Neighborhood children are great fashion arbiters, in case you don't have Tim Gunn at your disposal.)

But I told them they didn't know what they were talking about.

And now, I'll put it to you, SSGI readers. Pedicure in Black: Yay or Nay?

Do you like it? Do you hate it? Would you do it?

Oh, and if you say one single word about my preternaturally long monkey toes? YOU ARE DEAD TO ME.

I won't say anything about your monkey toes (especially since I have Flintstone toes) but I LOVE your sandals! So cute. I would never have guessed I'd like it, but I love the Pedicure in Black! It looks so cute- and I imagine it's adorable with a soft manicure like you mentioned. I think I'll have to try it!

Oh, I like them. Especially with those cute shoes. Nice catch on the black pedi sans goth nails. Might just have to do that myself, although I am craving bright spring colors right now.

It's cute on you cuz you're tan. I am so white that I'm almost blue, and this would make me look close to dead.

Three words. Jergens Tanning Moisturizer. That's all I've been using, and it's verrrrry gradual so you can decide each day whether you need more or not.

I am loving black mani/pedi right now. It makes me feel young and hip instead of like a boring old mom!! (and yes I realize how old I sound saying hip)

I don't like the black manicure because unless you have extremely young-looking hands I find it makes your hands look older. On the toes though? CUTE! I'm going to pick some up to wear with my open-toe shoes this summer!

I think that looks like Carmen Electra. I love the dark nail polish. My hubby thinks I am being goth when I do. :) It makes me laugh. I am addicted to Sally Hansen nail polish and usually get the Xtreme Wear colors. I have it in black (which I love) and "Flirt" which is a deep purple. It looks like black from a distance, but wear a little nicer for everyday. I have some other dark colors like that and I really like to wear them. I find they are a little more fitting in winter, but I think I may have to rummage through my collection and get mine out! :) One thing I have found to remove these dark colors (and red) is to use an acetone remover. That stuff would remove paint from a car! And by goodness, it doesn't leave any remnant of the old color. I could go from dark red to light pink and it wouldn't look stupid! That's my two cents on the matter! :)

I love it on your toes. I also love your shoes and whether you can pull it off depends on the fabulosity of your shoes. Bride of Frankenstein? 0 Lindsay? 1 I also feel like you have to be careful about the manicure in black. Your nails have to be very short and the rest of you needs to be in style as in "I've clearly never shopped at Hot Topic, nor do I intend to."
