Now that I'm right around the corner from 35, I've started finding silver strands among the gold. Er, brown. Whatever. Anyway, at first I had only a few, which I could easily pluck out with tweezers. But in the last year or so, they've multiplied like extraterrestrial pods in a 1950s horror movie.

Finally, a couple of months ago, I dyed it, which was not all that big of a deal since I've been dying my hair periodically since I was a teenager. But what to do about new pesky grays in between touch-ups?

A couple of months ago, Lucky Magazine (I read that magazine a lot. Can you tell?) had an intriguing blurb with tips on temporarily covering up the grays in between hair appointments and it's worth sharing with you. For brunettes, here's what they recommend:

Cover Your Gray Root Touch-Up lets you touch up your grays with a lipgloss applicator, comes in colors ranging from dark blonde to black, and is just $4.99 on Amazon.com.

Lucky Magazine also says brunettes can use a brow touch-up gel, like this mascara-like set from M.A.C., which is $14.50.

 

 

Another quick fix: brown or taupe eyeshadow, ideally in cream form, dabbed on with a cotton swab.

 

For lighter shades of hair, Lucky recommends using white dry shampoo on your roots, which will lighten up your regrowth and create some volume at your roots. A few you can try:

 

Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder in White- $18.99 at Walgreens.

 

 

Blow Faux Dry Shampoo, $20 from Beauty.com.

 

 

And Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo (which also was an Allure Magazine Best of Beauty award winner, apparently), $20 at Skin Store.
