Hot Trend: Nautical Style

Spring's nautical trend can have you regatta-ready in no time flat. Nautical pieces are always good to invest in, since they pop up year after year in designers' spring/summer collections and never really go out of style.

My advice? Work a few pieces into your wardrobe subtly in order to keep this look from becoming costumey. There's no need to slap an anchor on your outfit to let everyone know where you're going with it.

Navy and blue stripes along with navy and white solids and accent colors yellow and red ably convey the crisp nautical spirit. A rope accessory will make you a true trendsetter.

This boatneck navy and white-striped shirt is simple, effective, and most importantly, affordable. $28 from BDG.

And perhaps the most appropriate piece of nautical-inspired clothing? A nautical swimsuit, of course! This tankini is $66 from Nautica. I could totally see a 1960s starlet wearing this to a yacht party with white pants, drinking a few glasses of champagne, and then peeling off the pants and diving into the water. THAT COULD BE YOU.
