Recap: Fashion Week, Fall RTW 2010

I'm not spending much time on New York's Fall Fashion Week- hell, it's enough work getting us all ready for Spring/Summer- but I did take a look at photos from all the shows. Here are a few upcoming trends to keep in mind.

The prevailing colors for fall are black, white, and gray. The lingerie effect of nude silks and black lace are still very much in evidence. I liked this simple look from Diane Von Furstenberg.

Horizontal stripes are still hot. Boots are still around, although they appeared in suede and cozy sweater fabrics and they're being worn with shorts and skirts, rather than over skinny pants. Also? Buy plenty of black tights, because every model was wearing them, or simply going bare legged. And red was the "bright" color of choice on the runways. This look is from Y-3.

Buy your turquoise accents with an eye for Fall. It will continue to be big! This interpretation is from Betsey Johnson.

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and give into winter shorts. Lots of designers featured black dress shorts and I have to admit, they're starting to grow on me, particularly when layered underneath a jacket. I love this ensemble from Charlotte Ronson.

Good news for creatures of comfort- Billowy pants and comfortable, fluid fabrics are huge for Fall 2010. Here's another shot from Charlotte Ronson's show.

Look for evening wear and little black (or red!) dresses that fit that fluid trend. I loved Victoria Beckham and Rachel Roy's (seen here) drapey dresses. They can potentially be quite forgiving to your figure.

Neutrals are still hot and continue to look best paired with black. Here's designer Behnaz Serafpour's jaunty interpretation.

Bring out the grays! I love rag & bone's look here- I'm also digging the cozy knee socks, although I'll probably pair mine with boots to keep them age appropriate.

Leopard print popped up here and there on the runways. This coat is from Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. runway show. It's now an official goal of mine to find a vintage leopard coat before next fall. Etsy, here I come!

Also on the runways, plenty of silver, gold and fuschia (also hot looks for spring, so buy items in these colors that will take you into fall as well). Red lipstick, some of you will be unhappy to know, is still in full effect. What's gone? Leggings. Totally. Gone. Save them for the gym and around the house once fall arrives. And I'm guessing most of you didn't buy ankle booties, but if you did, put them away. They're done.
